Robert ("Bob") Lundquist Jr., passed away unexpectedly, on Tuesday, October 3rd, at home, with his loving wife. Over the last several years of his life, he "fought to live" every day, through his COPD, along with heart issues, a true hero to his family. Robert H. Lundquist Jr., was born on July 6th, 1942, in Grand Forks, ND. He was the oldest of 9 children. The son of Robert H. Sr. and Anne Jane (Grant) Lundquist. He and his parents lived in Grand Forks, ND and moved to Walhalla, ND before finally settling back in Adams, ND. Throughout his younger years and as he grew older, Bob spent a lot of time with his grandparents Oscar & Jessie Lundquist. They held a very special place in his heart. At an early age, he started working on the family farm, and his deep love of farming continued throughout his lifetime. He even had a special collection of toy tractors he displayed in his home office. He always found some way to be involved in farming, until his health deteriorated and wouldn't allow it: although that never stopped him from watching the farming going on around him. He enjoyed going for drives with Lois and just stopping to watch harvest or any kind of field work. His eyes lit up with excitement, just to watch. Bob attended Adams Public School through the 8th grade. His freshman year, he ventured off to Oak Grove High School, in Fargo, ND, where he excelled in their Track Program and received many medals, which he was very proud of, graduating in 1961. He attended college in Valley City, where he also participated in their track program. He went on to Bottineau College, before finishing his education at Interstate Business College. In 1963, Bob joined the Army National Guard, out of Grafton and went to Basic Training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. In July of 1964, he met the love of his life, Lois Wellman, of Edinburg, ND. They were engaged by December of 1964 and married in Edinburg, ND, on January 16th,1966 by the bride's father, Pastor Walter Wellman. They resided in Edinburg until April of 1966. After that time, they moved to Adams, ND, where they have lived ever since, in the same home his grandparents built. They welcomed their first child , a son, Robert H Lundquist III ("Bobby"), in 1968. They were blessed with their daughter, Julie Ann, in 1971. In 1972, he started working security at the Nekoma MSR site. That site closed and he transferred to The Cavalier Air Force Station, where he continued in security for a time. He went on to become an Environmentalist there. His daily commute was something he spoke often of over the years, as he was very proud of his '94 GMC Sonoma pickup. There weren't too many people that didn't hear "how many miles" he had on it, or "haven't had to do anything with the motor or tranny." It got him through a lot of weather throughout his shift work and it still sits in his garage today. He finished his career in the Power Plant, as a Control Room Operator, retiring in March of 2009, after 37 years! During those years, he also farmed, up until sometime in 1988, when he made the difficult decision to discontinue his farming operation and rent the land out. Bob was a kind soul, known for his "gift of gab" as he could visit with anyone about anything. He enjoyed attending all his grandkids sporting events/ musical concerts, etc. Everyone knew "Bob" and enjoyed his upbeat personality, quick wit, big smile and his hearty laugh. He was very patriotic and loved eagles and the American Flag. He would stand to his feet, and salute the flag, at any sighting. He was very proud to have served. He was a member of the Adams and then Lankin Legion and also served on the Adams School Board and the Adams Farmers Elevator Board. Bob didn't shy away from politics like most, he would debate with the best over his views and the happenings around the country, it was important to him. Most of all, though, Bob was a faithful Christian man, who loved the Lord and enjoyed going to Southern Gospel concerts with his wife, Lois. He deeply loved his family, prayed for them daily and appreciated them and all the wonderful times they shared. They were his prize possession above anything else.
