![]() Amber Leigh (Johnson) Redmann, 36, of Drayton, ND passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at her home. Amber was born on November 4, 1982 in Grand Forks, ND, the precious first-born child to Lon and Cindy (Mattson) Johnson. She attended Drayton Public School and graduated in 2001. She continued her education at North Dakota State School of Science with a Dental Assistant degree. Amber worked as a dental assistant for a short time, but her true calling was assisting the residents, as a CNA, at Eventide in Fargo, ND and at the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, ND. She loved the elderly and had a passion for helping them. Amber was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Drayton, where she was baptized and confirmed her faith in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. As a young girl, Amber used her beautiful voice to sing His praises at many bridal showers, her own Confirmation, weddings, funerals, and many family gatherings. Amber married Troy Redmann on July 11, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. They lived in Henderson, NV and Fargo. To this union of seven years, their little star Stella Mae was born. Amber’s pride and joy was her best friend, Stella. She worked from home on handmade tutus and other items, along with being a successful distributor of Juice Plus+, Jamberry Nails, and selling embossed cups and clothing. Amber was a jack of all trades and loved to work every fall on the Johnson Family Farms, driving truck and roto-beater in the sugar beet harvest. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, antiquing, traveling and music, especially the Beatles. Amber is survived by her daughter Stella Redmann, her parents, her sister Brittany (Robert) Mahar of Cavalier, ND, her brother Blake (Becky) Johnson and niece Julie of Drayton, ND, her grandmothers Harriet Johnson of Grafton, ND, and Ruth Mattson of Grand Forks, ND, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Amber was preceded in death ten years to the day by her grandfather Harris Johnson and just four days prior by her grandfather James Mattson. May all know that in her life she loved you more! Amber’s favorite Bible verse was Psalm 121: 1-2…I lift up my eyes to the hills---where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church at 1710 Cherry Street, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Interment will be in the Skjeberg Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Bernhard Seter and Rev. Craig Fenske, presiding; special music will be provided by Mandi DeYounge, pianist/soloist. Honorary pall bearers will be family and friends. Visitation will be held at Skjeberg Lutheran Church rural Drayton on Sunday October 6, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00.

![]() Sidney S. Dvorak, age 98 of Grafton, ND and formerly of Minto passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton. Sidney S. Dvorak was born April 17, 1921 near Veseleyville, ND the son of the late John and Mary (Sobolik) Dvorak. He attended rural school near there. Following his education he enlisted in the United States Air Corp, serving as a waste gunner on the B-17 Bomber. Following his discharge in 1944 he returned home and worked on the Pete Flaten Farm. Sidney was united in marriage to Godfrey Votava on June 17, 1946 in Veseleyville. The couple made their home there until moving to Minto in 1961. He worked for the Walsh County Highway Department for a few years and in 1962 started as a rural mail carrier for the Minto Post Office, retiring at age 67. Godfrey passed away in August of 2012 and in November of 2016 Sidney moved to Leisure Estates in Grafton. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto, the Minto American Legion, served as President of the Minto School Board and President of the Minto Senior Citizens. He was an active member of the Fair Oaks Golf Club in Grafton as well. Sidney is survived by his children: Linda (Paul) Lemiux, Grafton, ND; Loretta (Ross) Kringlie, Bozeman, MT; Conrad (Lorraine) Dvorak, Quincy, IL; Sidney John (Judy) Dvorak, Minto, ND; Timothy (Cori) Dvorak, Grafton, ND; Kevin (Beth) Dvorak, Bismarck, ND; daughter-in-law, Lori Dvorak, Gillette, WY; Joel (Becky) Dvorak, Sheridan, WY; Allan (Carolanne) Dvorak, Bismarck, ND; Kim (Cathy) Dvorak, Bismarck, ND; 33 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sons: Dean and Randy; three brothers and three sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Gilleshammer, age 93 of Grafton, ND passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, ND. June Iris Romine was born in Rugby, ND on May 28, 1926 to Gene and Hilma (Ellertson) Romine where she graduated from high school. She moved to Grafton and worked as a telephone operator until her marriage to Allen Gilleshammer January 1949. They resided on a farm 9 miles North and 2 ½ miles West of Grafton on the Walsh/Pembina County line. They moved to Grafton in 1965. June was always full of fun and enjoyed family events, doing skits and spending time with her friends in “Birthday Club” and other organizations. She was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church. She was a very hard working family farm wife. She was known for her friendly demeanor, infectious smile and great sense of humor that she shared with all she met. She is survived by her children, Keith (Jill) Gilleshammer, Fargo, ND, Julie Gillis, Minneapolis, MN, Jay Gilleshammer, Fridley, MN, 6 grandchildren, Vanessa (Tony) Noce, Christin (Kissy) Munchoff, Tucson, AZ, Jace (Jennifer) Gilleshammer, Queen Creek, AZ, Michael (Susan) Eoloff, Milwaukee, WI, Sara Eoloff, Minneapolis, MN and Ann Eoloff, Minneapolis, MN. Inurnment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. ![]() Laura Joy Zelewski, age 43 of Grafton, North Dakota, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019. Laura was born March 3, 1976 in Grafton North Dakota, the daughter of the late Dennis and Carol (Olson) Zelewski. She attended school in Grafton, graduating in 1994. She was employed with the Grafton School District and JR’s Bar in Oakwood, ND. She was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church. Laura was married for 18 years to Chad Satterlund. They brought into the world two wonderful sons, Tucker and Cooper. She loved her boys beyond measure. Her life was full of continuous smiles with a zest for making others happy. She was, without question, the kindest of souls, generous, loving, strong, caring, and a dear friend to so many. Laura’s middle name, “Joy” is the best way to describe who she was and how she made others feel. Laura was incredibly creative, designing memory scrapbooks for her family and friends, making cakes for special occasions, baking all kinds of treats - especially her famous pumpkin rolls. She enjoyed traveling, auctions, antiquing, playing board games and puzzles, and especially watching her boys participate in the sports and activities they love. Laura deeply cherished her work-families at JR’s and the Grafton School and adored the students Laura is survived by her beautiful children, Tucker and Cooper Satterlund; sister, Tami Zelewski; former husband, Chad Satterlund; her sweetheart and best friend, Jim Olafson; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, all who will forever miss her sweet face and glorious smile. She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Zelewski; mother, Carol (Olson) Zelewski, grandparents, John and Helen Zelewski, Vernon and Pearl Olson; aunt Julianne Frisco, uncle Kenneth Olson. Byzewski, 98, formerly of Manvel, ND died September 26th, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Larimore, ND. Aurelia Joanne Czapiewski was born February 10, 1921, the daughter of Ferdinand and Joanna (Ebertowski) Czapiewski in Walshville Township, Walsh County ND. She attended school at District 86 in Walsh County and St Anthony’s Academy in Warsaw, ND. During the course of her life she was employed at H E Everson and S & L Department Store both of Grafton ND, Grayco Co., Minneapolis, MN, St Michael’s Hospital, Deaconess Hospital and Griffith’s Department Store all of Grand Forks, ND and the Pendleton Company, Omaha, NE. During WWII, she was employed by Electronic Development Co., The Foreign Missions of Omaha and Folgers Coffee, all in Omaha, NE. She was also employed in civil service for three years printing books for the US Government in Omaha. Upon returning to Grand Forks, she was employed at Singer Sewing Machine Co. and JC Penneys. Aurelia married Adam J. Byzewski November 23, 1955 at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks. They lived in Manvel their entire life where she was a housewife and loving mother. She moved in with her daughter in 2005 and then to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Larimore, in 2009. She was an active member of St Timothy’s Catholic Church, Manvel. She will be remembered by all for her baking and cooking but most of all for her kindness and compassion to all that met her. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Leona Czapiewski, Grand Forks ND; step-grandchildren, Sean and Kim; two great-step grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam; her daughter, Anne and son-in-law, Garrie Etherton; her parents; brothers, Billy, Edward, Florian, Dominic and infant brother John; her sisters, Florence Rogalla, Henrietta (Hetty) Pappas and Bernice Czapiewski. Kjelaas, age 93 of Adams, North Dakota, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Valley Eldercare Center of Grand Forks. Ione Evelyn Rundhaug was born January 7, 1926 in Adams, North Dakota, the daughter of the late Theo and Edith (Pierson) Rundhaug. She attended school in Adams and graduated in 1944. She worked at her father’s store, The Rundhaug Drug Store and the Woolworth Store in Grand Forks. She also worked at the Nils Omdalen Café, which later became known as Kjelaas Café, operated by Vincent. Ione was united in marriage to Vincent Kjelaas on June 19, 1947, in Adams. The couple ran the café until 1948. They moved to California for a year and returned to Adams. Vincent passed away on September 17, 2008. Ione moved to Grand Forks in 2010 and the Valley Eldercare Center in 2018. She was a member of the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church and WELCA, was a lifetime member of the Adams American Legion Auxiliary and Vaarliv Sons of Norway. Ione is survived by her children: Vickie Mahnke, Grand Forks, ND; Bruce (Renee) Kjelaas; grandchildren: Karen (Jason) Bindas, Nancy (Christopher) Sorensen, Michael Mahnke and Kristina Kjelaas; great grandchildren: Jeffrey Ollerich, Jessie Bindas, Logan Bindas, Kevin Sorensen, Isabelle Sorensen, Kaydn Norberg, Karlie Norberg and Jossilyn Norberg; five step-grandchildren; 13 step great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren. Lynch, age 88 of Grafton, ND, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton. Marilyn K. Foote was born to the late Thomas G. Foote and Louise Evelyn Anderson Foote in Canton, IL on May 12, 1931. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and many crafts. She dearly loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. Funeral Services were held at the Lutheran Sunset Home Chapel of Grafton on Monday, September 30, 2019 and interment at Bruce Cemetery, rural Pembina County, ND. ![]() Lawrence Mathern “Bump” Werven, 88, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 30th, 2019 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 29th , 2019 at the Church from 3 to 5 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 5 pm. Burial will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Walhalla. Lawrence was born on March 12, 1931 to Marthin and Clothilda Werven on a farm near Rosa Lake in Pembina County. He attended school in Svold. Lawrence joined the National Guard prior to enlisting in the Army in 1950. He fought in the Korean War as part of the 48th Field Artillery Battalion, attached to the 7th Infantry Division. He was discharged in December 1953 with the rank of Sergeant. Years later he traveled to Washington D.C. as part of the Veterans Honor Flight. This was an emotional but pride filled trip as he and other veterans were thanked and honored for their Service. On October 4, 1956 he married Anna Stremick at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They made their home in Walhalla where Lawrence worked many years as an auto and heavy equipment mechanic in Walhalla and surrounding areas. In 1976 he began working for Pan America Airlines and moved his family to Oman where he worked as a supervisor at Seeb International Airport. He is believed to be the first American to lead an equipment convoy across the Arabian Peninsula. Lawrence was well known for his skills as a mechanic. He restored trucks and tractors many of which appear each summer in area parades. He enjoyed painting, listening to country music, and spending time with his family. Lawrence was a member of VFW post 9367 and American Legion Post # 62. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus council #4485 Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Maurice, Sister Mae Dahl, and infant brother David. Lawrence is survived by his wife Anna of 63 years, his children Janice (Dan) Horgan of Walhalla, Joan (Pat) Chaput of Walhalla, Gerry (Beth) Werven of Rochester, MN and Jim (Julie) Werven of West Henrietta, NY; brothers Donald Werven of Seattle, WA, Matt (Janet) Werven of Backoo, Gordon (Linda) Werven of Cavalier; sisters Evelyn Swift of Des Moines, WA, Luella Latozke of Cavalier, Janet (Glenn) Watson of Cavalier, Betty Hanson of Cavalier and Loraine Martinson of Crystal; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. ![]() Allan F. Cleem, 70, of Pembina, ND passed away Monday, September 23, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. the Assumption Catholic Church, Pembina, ND. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday for one hour before the time of services. Burial will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock, MN. Allan Franklin Cleem was born July 2, 1949 at Hallock, MN to Frank and Tillie (Dykhuis) Cleem. He grew up at Humboldt, Minnesota where he attended school. Allan worked at CKND Televsion, Hartz grocery store, and Norman Jenson Brokerage all in Pembina. He enjoyed motorcycling, fishing and reading. Allan was on the board of the Upper Valley ARC, and also enjoyed volunteering for the Boy and Girl Scouts and the Special Olympics. On June 3, 1989, he married Marcy McDermott at Pembina, ND. He is survived by his wife, Marcy; children: Tammy Cleem, Grand Forks, ND, Breanna Cleem, Grafton, ND, Veronica “Roni” Cleem, Grand Forks, ND, Jerry Cleem and Garrett Cleem both of Pembina, ND; grandchildren: Megan and Justin Chute. He is also survived by his siblings: Loretta (Ernie) Rose, Gloria Harter, Iver (Cathy) Cleem, Marvin (Mary) Cleem, and Verna (Lorne) Lofberg. Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Glenn Cleem. ![]() Ann “Mickey” Shaver, age 66 of Lakota, ND and formerly Grafton, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Home of Lakota after a lengthy battle with cancer. Ann Michelle Scharwark was born October 8, 1952 to the late Agnes (Jesienouski/Twedten) and George Scharwark in Grafton, ND. She was raised and attended school in Grafton. In 1977, she married Charles (Chuck) Shaver and they resided in St. Thomas, ND. From this union, 2 children were born, Angela and Jason. Ann worked for the public schools, Lutheran Sunset Home, and Granny’s Restaurant. She loved to volunteer at Second Time Around. Ann loved ceramics, needlework, and word searches, time with family and friends, and cats. Ann is survived by her sister, Trudy (Marcel) Sabourin, Grafton, ND; sister in law: Sharyn Twedten, Charleston, SC; nieces: Darcy Sabourin, Grafton, ND; Tricia (Ryan) Campbell, Bluffton, SC; Cathy Twedten and Tara Twedten, Charleston, SC; nephew: Joe (Jennifer) Sabourin, Fargo, ND; great nieces: Temre Campbell and Mia Campbell, Bluffton, SC; Emery Sabourin and Ava Sabourin, Fargo, ND; several cousins also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents, her children: Angela and Jason, her brother Jerry Twedten, nephew Austin Sabourin. A graveside service will be Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the St. Thomas City Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the local Humane Society. |
