 Dale T. Clark, 57, of Langdon, ND passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, at his home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 4, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND.
Dale Todd Clark was born November 8, 1963, at Grafton, ND to Thomas and Erma (Weiner) Clark. He grew up and attended school in Walhalla, ND., where he enjoyed playing football. He owned and operated his own masonry construction business. Dale was excellent at his craft, his stone and tile work became his art. Nothing was left undone until it was perfect. He enjoyed being with family and his special friend Heather Kramer, other friends, and his faithful fury friend Marvin. Dale was married to Susie Moore, and they have one son, Cory. He is survived by his son, Cory (Callie) Clark and grandchildren, Rylee, Gage, and Rhyan all of Alexandria, MN, Parents, Erma and Gene “Pops” Uecker, Walhalla, ND, siblings: Viola Srnsky, Grand Forks, ND, Terry (Petra) Clark, Oxnard, CA, Karen Winkler, Fargo, ND, niece, Rhea Winkler, and nephews, Terrance and Christopher Clark, his special friend, Heather Kramer, Langdon, ND. Also surviving are four step-sisters, one step-son, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceding him in death were his dad, Thomas Clark, infant brother, Manuel William Clark, and his grandparents. He is greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.

 We are saddened to announce the passing of our daughter, Lindsey Erin Belcher Duray. Lindsey was born on February 18, 1985, in St Louis, MO, and died on August 29, 2021 in Pembina ND at the age of 36.
Lindsey grew up in Montana before settling in Eastern North Dakota, and graduated from Pembina High School in 2003. Lindsey was an accomplished and sought after hairstylist, with a loyal following of clients in Grafton, Grand Forks and Pembina. She owned The White Buffalo Salon, which she founded. A quick social media search reveals all those happy clients. Lindsey loved hair styling, fashion, her friends and family, her beloved cats, fishing, and country music. She was a fiercely loyal and generous friend- kind, big hearted, empathetic, caring and compassionate. Lindsey is survived by her dad, Phil (Kathy), her brother, Chris (Leah), nephews Zeke and Caius, her Pawpaw Roy, grandma Virginia, uncles Joe, Zarren, and Zane, aunt Farol, and numerous cousins and friends who all loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Vicky, her paternal grandmother and maternal grandpa. Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier ND is handling the arrangements. Martha Rose Henderson, 95, of Langdon, ND, and formerly of Munich and Calvin, ND, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, ND.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Munich, ND. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service and Rosary on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, rural Munich, ND.  Dylon S. Stevenson, 24, of Cavalier, ND passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. A private service will be held following the visitation.
Dylon Sean Stevenson was born February 3, 1997, on a snow filled February evening. Being two weeks late and not cooperative, his mom knew she was not going to raise any ordinary boy! While growing up in Cavalier, he could be found outside playing with the neighbor hood kids. He was the kindest most loving kid you could know and he loved with his whole heart. As he grew, he found his love for sports. He loved anything sports but loved the game of football and was an amazing golfer. Dylon also loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his mother, Shauna, grandparents, Jane and Jeff Stevenson, uncle, Jason Stevenson and his children, James, Jeffrey, and Elizabeth, all of Cavalier, ND. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceding him in death were his great-grandparents: Dallas and Betty Shambaugh and Lawrence and Shirley Stevenson.  Joy M. Ferguson, age 94 of Grafton, ND passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the Unity Hospital of Grafton, ND.
Joy M. Sellheim was born October 30, 1926 in International Falls, MN the daughter of the late John and Mary (Skaro) Sellheim. The family moved to Hensel, ND where she grew up and attended school. Joy was united in marriage to Robert Thorvilson in 1943. The couple made their home near Adams, ND. She later married Churchill Ferguson in September of 1956. The couple lived in Adams, Edinburg and Grafton, ND. Joy worked as a resident care technician at the Grafton Developmental Center and later at the State Hospital in Jamestown, ND. After her retirement she moved back to Grafton and has made her home here since. She was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church. Joy is survived by her children: Robert (Eileen) Thorvilson, Fargo, ND; Wayne (Mardy) Thorvilson, Gilby, ND; LuAnn (Roger) Capouch, Stacy, MN; Terry (LouAnn) Thorvilson, Fairdale, ND; Carla Kleven, Grafton, ND; Craig (Lisa) Ferguson, Grafton, ND; Stacie (Mitch) Ensrude, Grafton, ND; Troy Ferguson, Grafton, ND; 24 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; siblings: Richard (Irene) Sellheim, Grand Forks, ND and Darlene Bjerke, Park River, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Dallas, grandson, Luke Thorvilson, great grandson, Luke Capouch and siblings: Willard, Leonard, Virgil, Robert, Jackie, Gordon, JoAnn and Betty. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 11:00 A.M at the Grafton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Wayne Jenson, 82 of Cavalier, ND passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held Sunday August 29th at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier N.D. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 28th from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. Masonic service at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier, N.D.
Wayne Clifton Jenson was born May 5, 1939, in Grafton, N.D. to Clifton and Dolores (Schulz) Jenson. He spent his entire life in Cavalier and graduated from Cavalier High School. He attended Mayville State, UND and graduated from Aaker’s Business College. He was first employed at Rosenberger Motors in Langdon, N.D. before joining Olson Motors in Cavalier in 1961. He started Wayne’s Variety in 1968 which is still in business today and expanded the business to include Wayne’s Variety in Park River, N.D. in 1978. Going to markets for his stores in Chicago, Iowa, Kansas City and Minneapolis was something he really enjoyed. Wayne was very involved in the community. He served as a Cavalier council person for 50 years from 1962 to 2012. He started and ran the DeMolay chapter from 1962 to 1987 and was a Master Mason for 59 years and he was part of the Scottish Rite for 52 years. He was a long-time member of the Cavalier United Methodist church until it closed in 2019. Wayne loved to travel and went on many cruises through the years. Spending time with his family was very important to him and he enjoyed all the family gatherings especially at Christmas time. Survivors include his siblings: Ronald (June) Jenson, Beverly (Dean) Hinkle of Cavalier, N.D., Richard (Cindy) Jenson, Northfield, MN. and Mark (Jodi) Jenson, Minneapolis MN.: nephews and nieces: Pam (Wayne) Clarksean, Patti (Floyd) Rollefstad, Paula (Larry) Gapp, Peggy (Brian) Devine; John (Nancy) Jenson, James (Jeanette) Jenson, Jay (Jodi) Jenson; Kristi (Craig) Sharp; Anders and Lauren Jenson: 18 great nieces/nephews and 10 great-great nieces/nephews. Also preceding him in death were his parents.  Curtis Leroy Iverson was born May 5 1940 at Lakota, ND, to Bernhard and Esther (Everson) Iverson, and was baptized at the home of his grandparents Ole and Clara (Rudh) Iverson of rural Dahlen, ND.
He comfortably passed away in his home in Fordville, on Monday, August 23, with his wife at his side, just like she has been for 62 years, after fighting for his life for many years battling multiple health issues. Curtis grew up on a farm south of Dahlen where he was confirmed in the Dahlen Lutheran Church in 1954 and graduated from Dahlen High School class of 1958. He married Janice Henry in November, 1959 in Park River, ND. Curt and Jan worked different jobs in the area including farm jobs, the creamery in Towner, ND, and operating the Inkster Market in Inkster, ND. In 1962, the couple moved to Phoenix, AZ, where their children were born and Curt took a job with the El Rancho Grocery Store, then later a salesman for the Kellogg’s Company. In 1972, the family was transferred due to his job to Simi Valley, CA and lived there until 1977. Curt made a return trip to North Dakota to purchase a home for the family in Jan’s hometown and surprisingly bought a grocery store, too. This evolved into the Fordstore and Trustworthy Hardware where over the years became a family affair to keep the place up and running. Curt’s hobbies included fishing, transforming their beautiful yard, restoring old tractors, collecting toy tractors and visiting with family and friends. He loved to visit and was known to tell some pretty good stories. He was a hardworking, generous, outspoken man who lived life by his own rules. He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws Robert and Ethel Henry, and an infant daughter. He is survived by his wife, life partner and caregiver Janice. Christopher was born August 28, 2003 at Waxahachie, TX to Oscar Martinez, Jr. and Brittney (Chapples) Martinez. For the past eight years he has lived in Cavalier. He was presently employed at Thompson’s Café in Cavalier. Things Chris enjoyed were skate boarding, BMX, rapping, and he enjoyed spending time with his many friends. He is survived by his mother, Brittney Martinez, Cavalier, ND, father, Oscar Martinez, Jr. Bay St. Louis, MS, siblings: Gabriel Martinez and Oscar Martinez III, both of Cavalier, Jimmy Hanes, Midlothian, TX, Austin Martinez, Glyndon, MN, Dylan Martinez, Minneota, MN, Desiree Casey, Duluth, MN. Also surviving are his grandparents: Rejeana and Mike Davis and Ron McGraw, all of Abilene, TX, Oscar and Wanda Martinez, Venus, TX, and his girlfriend, Bethany O’Toole, Crystal, ND. Preceding him in death were his great-grandparents: Sue Gollihar, Matha Goff, Maria Martinez, and John Carroll, and uncle, John Carroll, Jr.  Gary Curtis Pearson was born on June 8, 1943 in Fargo, ND to Pearl and Gunard Pearson and died on August 19, 2021. He grew up on a farm in Gunkel Township where he attended Rose Valley rural school and graduated from Arthur High School in 1961. He attended Mayville State Teachers College where he played basketball and baseball and was a member of the 1963 Hall of Fame World Series Team.
After graduating from Mayville State in 1966, he married Beverly Alfson. They moved to Grafton, ND where Gary taught Business Education and coached basketball at the high school. His love of sports included years of reffing basketball and playing on several championship fastpitch softball teams for Grafton and other area teams. As an active member of the Grafton Jaycees, Gary won the North Dakota “Speak-up” competition and developed the national “Road Runner” award. After teaching, he served as a loan officer at the Grafton National Bank. His innovative drive then led him to become the owner/manager of KXPO radio where he covered regional and state sporting events, county fairs, regional weather, as well as initiating community events. He also partnered the development of SOS Office Supply, owned the Grafton Dairy Queen, and was involved with several other radio stations including putting KZZY in Devils Lake on the air. Gary was a member of AA for over 25 years. He was an avid golfer throughout his life and enjoyed playing pinochle. Spending time with family and friends at the lakes was always a special event. Whether it was at Red Willow, Ortonville, Beltrami, Eunice, or Detroit Lakes, Gary enjoyed softball, waterskiing and pontooning. He also was a member of the Minot Moose Lodge and enjoyed dancing, most recently at Mouse River Park and other Minot area venues with Betty Routledge. He is survived by his son David (Keleigh) Pearson, Iowa City, Iowa; his brothers Paul (Nancy) Pearson, Minot, ND, Ronnie (Penny) Pearson, Port Huron, MI, sister Bonnie (Steve) Almond, Moorhead, MN; nephews Paul Pearson, Eric Pearson, John Almond, Patrick Almond, and Bruce Pearson; two grandchildren Carter and Berkley, ex-wife Beverly Alfson Pearson; friend Betty Routledge. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and nieces Heather Pearson and Michelle Pearson. Celebration of Life: Sunday September 5 at 2:00, outdoors at 3034 Prairie Farms Circle S, Fargo, ND. Skovgaard, 68, of Milton, ND passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Sanford on Broadway, Fargo, ND. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Wife, Amma, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Friend, Nurse, Bartender, Published Author, Trusted Advisor and Shieldmaiden Viking Poet. These words fall short and only begin to describe our beautiful Mother. Deborah Denise Skovgaard drew her last breath of her own volition and went to be with the Lord on 17 August 2021 at 5:30 AM surrounded by family as they recited the Lord’s Prayer. Debbie was born 23 September 1952 in Langdon, North Dakota to Glenn and Inga Laxdal. She went to school and grew up in the Edinburg area developing friendships with people that she maintained until she passed. Debbie went to work at the Cedar Inn in Cavalier and worked as a waitress and bartender for many years, it was there she met her Husband Steven Skovgaard. Steven and Debbie would spend many years going on primitive camping trips called “rendezvous”. They travelled near and far, all over the U.S., to spend time together in the great American wilderness; cultivating an amazing marriage that would see her to the end. Deborah worked a variety of jobs in the area as bartender, waitress and newspaper editor, but had a dream of doing long term care and she achieved that dream working as a Medical Technician at Borg Home in Mountain. Deborah valued the elderly and showed them the veneration and respect she knew they were worthy of. Residents at Borg would ask for her counsel long after she worked there and she continued visiting residents weekly until the pandemic started. Debbie loved spending time in the kitchen, cooking delicious meals or baking delicious treats for family, these simplest of pleasures brought great joy to her life and our stomachs. It would be rare to arrive at Amma’a house and not have a pan of SK bars waiting or some other Icelandic dessert. It was always a warming experience to sit at her table and have a coffee, all while hearing stories about her adventures with her family or parents. There was never a lack of pictures from her travels to Iceland, Canada, Hawaii or from just from her Home doing what she loved most, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren or dear friends. Loved ones that cleared the heavenly path for Deborah were her Father and Mother Glenn and Inga Laxdal and her daughter Jennifer Chambers. The loved ones that will miss her until they are reunited are her husband Steven Skovgaard, her sister Jennifer Laxdal, her daughter Heather Waldner, her son’s Chris (Shannon) Chambers, Bill (Kathleen) Thompson and Arien (Jessica) Thompson, her grandchildren Craig (Jean), Glenna (Kevin), Tristan, Breanna (Mos), Jerrod, Avery, Sydney (Ash), Hannah, Jayden, Kadee, William, Molly, Reagan, Poe, Odin, and her great-grandchild Evelynn, with another on the way. Deborah also had two dogs that she loved very much named Thunder and Abby. |
