 Dennis L. “Denny” Dame, 77, of Walhalla, ND passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at his home. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Walhalla, ND. Following the graveside service lunch and fellowship will be held at the St. Boniface Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Walhalla Public Library.
Dennis Leonard “Denny” Dame as born October 27, 1944 to Leonard and Helen (Dubourt) Dame. Denny grew up in Walhalla, ND and graduated from Walhalla High School in 1962. He continued his education and graduated from Mayville State University, before entering the U.S. Army in 1966. He served in the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1968. Denny was a member of the Bartlette-Resler Legion Post and continued to serve veterans throughout his life. Denny worked in Economic Development in Pembina and surrounding counties. He was employed by the Red River Regional Council, and worked various construction and farm labor until his retirement in 2007. He was an avid reader, golfer, and “chef”. Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Dana and brother-in-law, Mike Marcotte. He is survived by his sister, Dixie Marcotte, Camarillo, CA and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

 Eileen Wendt, age 90, was called to her heavenly home on February 2, 2022 at the Pembilier Nursing Home in Walhalla, North Dakota.
Margaret Eileen Wendt was born July 19, 1931 to Earl and Agnes (McGurran) Brown and was the third of 14 siblings. Eileen went to school in Cavalier and during her high school years, she worked for Klevin's Studios of Cavalier where she tinted black and white photos into colored life-like treasures. Eileen went on to earn her teaching certificate from Valley City Teacher's College and then began teaching at the Leroy Public School. Eileen was excited to begin her teaching career but that paled in comparison when she met the love of her life, Florian Wendt. They dated for a short time before she snatched him up and married him on April 7, 1951 at the St. Boniface Church in Walhalla, North Dakota. Eileen and Florian started their life together in Walhalla where they happily gathered with family and friends and danced the soles off their shoes whenever they could. The Good Lord blessed Eileen and Florian with three children: Florenda, Richard and Robert. She was thankful for these blessings most days, and often went through a list of her siblings' names before getting to the name of her child that she wanted to talk to. With all joking aside, she loved her children with her whole heart. Her love for her family increased as the grandchildren and great grandchildren joined her fold. She would sit for hours holding them and reading or singing to them or just carrying on a conversation with them. During their early married years, Eileen worked as a telephone operator, which was an ideal job for someone who loved to talk with people. This was back in the days of party lines, and she was always disappointed when people told her to hang up on her end of the line. Eileen later worked for Karel Sales and Service in Walhalla and finished her working career with the U.S. Census Bureau where she talked Florian into driving her to her appointments on the pretext that she needed him to protect her from any unfriendly dogs. Florian loved Eileen, and didn't mind doing this one bit. It gave them an opportunity to visit with people and have lunch at a local café together, where Eileen would usually say she wasn't hungry and then proceed to eat most of his lunch and drink nearly all of his coffee and then ask him what he was having for dessert. Eileen was very active in her community, whether it was in Walhalla or in their winter home at Rainbow Spa in Desert Hot Springs, California. She joined in every event she could and took many pictures to remember these times. She was a 4-H leader, and a member of the St. Boniface Altar Society and Degree of Honor. She loved attending her daughter's horse events and was a super fan of dirt track racing. She was the most committed and loyal supporter of her niece's singing group "Andi and the Browns." She enjoyed camping and fishing, especially when she could reap the rewards of a day of fishing without having to go out in the boat. She could fry up fresh walleye like no one else and serve them with a kettle of potatoes and everyone relished every bite. Her Catholic faith was very important to Eileen, as evidenced by her passing away quietly in her chair with her rosary in her hands. We know she was met in heaven by not only Jesus, but her beloved Florian. She once had a dream that she died and went to heaven and was met by Florian who was so happy and excited to see her but went on to remind her that she was not the boss of him up there. Eileen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Florian; her parents, and her siblings and their spouses: Joseph Earl Brown, Jack (Mavis) Brown, Leonard (Rita) Brown, Theresa (Tom) Nugent, Katherine (Gene) White and Mary Agnes Brown. She is survived by her children: Florenda (Harry) Holen, Richard (Bobbi) Wendt and Robert Wendt; her grandchildren: Christopher Olson (Desiree Kintyhtt) , Luke (Nikki) Holen, Corey Holen, Stephanie (Jeremy) Bakken, and Darin Wendt (Teasha Campagnola); great grandchildren: Carter Bakken, Cece Bakken, Chaz Bakken, Decker Wendt, Denli Wendt, Madalyn Holen and Parker Holen; her bonus great grandchildren: Cassandra Kintyhtt, Lexis Kintyhtt, Delani Kintyhtt, Zaiden Kintyhtt, and Liam Campagnola; brothers: David (Johnette) Brown, Tom (Marge) Brown, Joe (Becky) Brown; sisters: Mary Urlaub, Julia Reck, Evelyn (Bob) Rogers, and Earlene (Phil) Kase, and several nieces and nephews. Eileen wouldn't hesitate to tell you that she lived a full and happy life. She loved deeply and completely and without reservation. "You will be always loved and never forgotten. May your soul Rest in Peace." Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla, ND. A rosary service will be held Sunday, May 1st at 7:30 p.m. at the church.
 Lloyd J. Christenson, 104, of Parkwood Senior Living, Grand Forks, North Dakota passed away On April 20, 2022.
Lloyd was born January 16, 1918 in Bowesmont, North Dakota the son of the late Matilda and Henry Christenson. He graduated from Bowesmont High School in 1936 and from North Dakota State Agricultural College (NDSU) with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1941. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp (Air Force) and was stationed in several locations. On June 28, 1951, Lloyd was united in marriage to Zona Patterson. Lloyd successfully farmed for many years in the Bowesmont area. Upon retirement, he and Zona enjoyed many winters in Mesa, Arizona. Lloyd served on the Drayton School Board and Bowesmont Methodist Church Board. Lloyd is survived by a daughter, Macy Christenson of Marana, AZ; a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Pamela Christenson; three married grandchildren, Lindsey (Casey) Fering, Reid (Lisa) Christenson and Brett (Kallie) Christenson, all in the Drayton area. Also surviving are eight great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Zona; a daughter, Gwen; son-in-law, Bruce; and all of his siblings. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in Drayton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service.  JoAnn Riske, age 69 of Forest River, ND passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks.
JoAnn Cheri Riske was born July 20, 1952 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of the late Jack Bellinger and Beverly Hiney. She grew up in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and North Dakota. JoAnn was united in marriage to John H. Riske on August 21, 1970 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Ardoch, ND. They made their home in Forest River, ND. JoAnn worked for many years as a cook at Midway School in Inkster, ND and took pride in her job and being a part of so many children’s lives. After Midway School she worked at Marvin Windows in Grafton, ND until her retirement. JoAnn was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ardoch, ND and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto, ND. She taught religion classes and was a member of the Altar Society. Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing, baking, spending time with family and being a member of the Homemakers Club and Legion Auxiliary. JoAnn loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on. She will be greatly missed by her children: Patrick (Diane) Riske, Forest River, ND; Kathryn Duben, Andrson, SC; grandchildren: Andrew and Anna Riske; siblings: Lola Hansmann, San Antonio, TX; Dick (Becky) Bellinger, Pueblo, CO; Torn Bellinger, Lansford, ND; step-father, Joe Goodman, San Antonio, TX; siblings-in-law: Patty (David) Wilson, East Grand Forks, MN; Mary Ann Bayne, Belpre, OH; Donnie (Bonnie) Riske, Forest River, ND; Kathy (Rodger) Common, Mesa, AZ; Hilary “Butch” (Julie) Riske, Grand Forks, ND; Christine (Vernon) Langowski, Grand Forks, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandparents, brother-in-law, mother-in-law and father-in-law. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 20 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto. Visitation will be Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Forest River, ND.  Luella M. Farrow, 98, of Cavalier, ND passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the time of services.
Luella Hodgson was born March 11, 1923, in rural Cavalier to John and Pearl (Switzer) Hodgson. She attended Cranley rural school and then graduated from Cavalier High School in 1941. After high school, she attended St. Michael’s Nursing School in Grand Forks. Luella served in World War II as a 1st LT Army nurse in the South Pacific from April 2, 1945 – January 24, 1947. Luella married Ray J. Farrow at the Cavalier Baptist Church on October 12, 1947. She worked at Pembina County Memorial Hospital and helped on the family farm. Luella enjoyed quilting, China painting, baking and sewing. She was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. Luella was also a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, Laverne J Thompson Post #11-Cavalier American Legion, where she served as Commander, Adjutant, and also served on State and District committees. Charter Member of Cavalier Senior Citizens and she was also a North Dakota Barley Queen. Survivors include her children, David (Nola) Farrow of Auburn, WA, Catherine (Wayne) Erie of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Jean (Robert) Schroeder of Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: Natasha (Phil) Prather, Nichole (Harry) Whitaker, Adam (Dawn) Erie, Craig (Carrie) Erie, Scott Erie, Kristin (Pat) Kalahar, Jay (Caroline) Schroeder; great-grandchildren: Alexander, Zachary, and Madelyn Prather, Elsie Whitaker, Carson Erie and Hannah Erie, Marieda, Kiera and Brody Kalahar, Fiona Schroeder; sister, Reta Harless. Preceding her in death were her parents, twin daughters, husband Ray, brothers, Harvey and Roy. Luella always shared her love with family and friends. She will be greatly missed. |
