 Sherry W. Busse, 69, of Cavalier, ND passed away Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Sherry W. Lewis was born October 4, 1951 at Fargo, ND to Charles W. and Vergil V. (Rickbeil) Lewis. She grew up in Cavalier, ND and graduated from Cavalier High School. Sherry then attended Valley City State College and the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. On June 14, 1975, she married Francis Busse at Cavalier, ND. After their marriage they made their home in Cavalier. Sherry worked at the Developmental Center in Grafton, ND, Chuck Wagon Café and Leevers Grocery in Cavalier. Things she enjoyed were a love of animals, traveling, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Francis, children: James (Sally) Busse, Charlie (Danita) Busse, Danny (Kayla) Busse, Joey Busse all of Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: James and Jorja, Austin and Kaiden, Sydney, Lucas, Landon, Levi, and Logan and a great-grandson, Jesse, and sister, Janelle Kessler, Grand Forks, ND. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters-in-law: Ron (Connie) Busse, Laurel (Paul) Brusseau, Carolyn (Bill) Dubuque and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, brother, Ward Lewis, and brothers-in-law, Tim Kessler and Terry Busse.

 Einar O. Abrahamson, 87, of Cavalier, ND passed away Saturday, September 25, 2021 at his home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 9. 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Memorials are preferred to the Icelandic State Park.
Einar Olafur Abrahamson was born November 27, 1933 in Akra Township to Einar and Helga (Gudmundson) Abrahamson. He grew up in the Akra area where he attended grade school and later graduated from Cavalier High School. Einar then served in the U.S. Army and was very proud of playing football for them. After his discharge from the service, he attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis for architectural drafting. He returned to the area and started Abrahamson Brothers Construction with his brothers Edmund and Finn. He enjoyed woodworking, driving around, telling stories, and was know as a practical joker. On June 10, 1961, he married Lori Lerbs at Hallock, MN, they were blessed with four children. He is survived by his children: Allison (Kerry) Fretheim, Harwood, ND, Einar Abrahamson, Burlington, ND, Matt (Allison) Abrahamson, Grand Forks, ND, Amy (Todd) Skjoldal, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren: Katie (Johan) Basson and son, Sam, Forrest (Alyssa) Fretheim and children, Stella and Odin, Wyatt Fretheim, and Seth Fretheim; Tiffany Abrahamson and Matthew Abrahamson; Haakon Skjoldal and Finn Skjoldal. Also surviving are his sisters: Agnes Hagstrom, Arlene (Danny) Holen, Aldis (Wayne) Pearson; sisters-in-law Karen Abrahamson and Sally Abrahamson. Preceding him in death were his parents, siblings: Jon Albert, Edmund, and Finn Abrahamson and Alice Westra.  Tim Gudmundson, 65, of Mountain, ND passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the First Care Health Center, Park River, ND. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND..
Tim was born on March 16, 1956 to Gudmundur and Emily (Kristjanson) Gudmundson. He grew up on the family farm near Mountain, ND and spent most of his life there. He attended grade school in Mountain and graduated from Edinburg High School in 1974. He worked at the Cavalier Air Force Station as a mail driver and for various farmers in the area. He worked at Marvin Windows in Grafton, ND for over 20 years until failing health forced him to retire. He made many good friends there. Tim loved to hunt, to ride motorcycles, his many dogs and was an avid gun collector. He was a master storyteller and could keep friends and family laughing for hours. He is survived by his best friend, Deborah Reilly, Brothers, Gene (Helen) of Mountain, ND; Lowell (Cecilia) of South Hadley, MA; and Eric (Kari) of Crookston, MN, 8 nieces and nephews, and 7 great nieces and nephews. Tim was preceded in death by both of his parents.  Dale August Niswonger, age 63 of Warsaw, ND passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Dale leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 31 years, Mardell; his children: Jeremy (Collette) Adamsen, East Grand Forks, MN; Mandi (James) Robinson, Valley City, ND; Jason (Katie) Klava, Warsaw, ND; his grandchildren: Alex, Max and Jax Robinson, Davis and Dex Adamsen, Trevor and Trenton Klava and Adrien Charboneau, his mother; Isabel Niswonger, Minto, ND; siblings: Bill (Gloria) Niswonger, Walker, MN; Mariette (Melton) Flores, Rogers, AR; Gary Niswonger, Warsaw, ND; Peggy Niswonger, Minto, ND and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Dale was the 5th of 7 children born to Clarence and Isabel (Gerszewski) Niswonger on November 19, 1957 in Grafton, ND. Dale took his place as youngest brother seriously and in a family that considered quick wit a must, and saracasm a competitive sport, he surpassed us all. He graduated from Minto High School in 1976. From there he traveled the world while in the US Navy. He then worked for McCann Farms,Torks Polski Dom, Gudajtes Farms and Triple D Construction. He also owned and operated a business of his own known as Dale’s Small Engine Repair. Dale couple always be found in his shop with a diet Mountain Dew in his hand and a cat on his lap visiting with his many cherished friends. In 1990 he married the love of his life, Mardell Mattson. Together they created great memories and stories for their three children and later eight grandchildren. Dale was fluent in sarcasm and wit. He had many hobbies and loved spending time outdoors. Whether he was fishing or tending to his garden and trees he was content. He was known for his legendary 4th of July parties. Dale was happiest when he was with his family. He took advantage of every opportunity to create new memories with the people he loved the most. Dale truly did love life. He was real, he was the laughter and joy, the hope and absolute essence of our family, the baby brother, the confidant, consoler, keeper of secrets and giver of light and wisdom-he was the heartbeat of this family. That evidence is the deep sorrow and pain in our hearts that his family feels from his passing. He is now reunited with his father Clarence, his sister, LuAnn Jacobson, infant brother John and grandson Izaya and his grandparents. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 27, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Warsaw, ND. Friends may call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Minto, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Minto American Legion and the US Navy Honor Guard.  Beatrice T. Grove, age 101 of Adams, ND, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at the First Care Health Center of Park River.
Beatrice was born August 31, 1920 in Silvesta Township, the daughter of the late Bennie and Tilda (Bakken) Aune. She attended a one room country school and 1 year of high school. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary and WELCA. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She married Palmer T. Grove on May 6, 1945 at Adams, ND. They farmed from 1945 to 1976. Following their retirement they moved into Adams. They wintered in Arizona starting in 1965 and Beatrice continued until 2017. She is survived by her son Richard and daughter Patricia, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Mortimer and Donald Aune, sister Mae Sondreson, son-in-law Neil Hove and daughter-in-law Linda Troftgruben Grove. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the West Adams Cemetery.  Robert J. Otto, 76 of Crystal, ND passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the First Care Health Center, Park River, ND.
Robert James Otto age 76 of Crystal passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 19, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Park River, ND following 14 years battling several illnesses. Robert was born on November 5, 1944 in Grafton, ND to Fred and Eileen (Shephard) Otto. He grew up on the farm at rural Crystal. He and his brothers learned farming from their father at an early age. After graduating from Crystal Public School, he attended UND. During his university days he was an active member of Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship where he made many live long friends. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor fraternity. He was in Army ROTC and after graduating, he served in the military which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. By the end of his military career, he had achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Robert returned home to farm with his father and brother. He active in the Crystal Methodist Church. Robert was a lifelong learner as evidenced by his extensive library. He had a wealth of knowledge in many subjects. He also was a world traveler traveling to six continents in his lifetime. His travels took him to visit and help missionary friends, study in France and Switzerland, scuba dive, ski, whale watch, climb pyramids and countless other adventures. Robert loved his role as uncle and great uncle and was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews. He was always so interested in their lives, studies and careers. They considered him one of the smartest people they knew, and he was often a source of help with homework assignments. He is survived by siblings John (Marsha) Otto, Zephyrhills, FL, Barbara (Bradley) Bergem, Fergus Falls, MN, Bruce (Susan) Otto, Crystal, and Beth (Reuben) Viland, West Fargo, 11 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews, an uncle, an aunt, and numerous cousins. Robert was proceeded in death by his parents and niece, Andrea Viland. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cavalier Evangelical Free Church, Cavalier, ND.  Joyce (Wisler) Bjornstad, 97, of Cando, ND passed away Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the Christian Fellowship Church in Cando with Pastor Jeff Peters officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Zion Cemetery in rural Cando. Music will be provided by Catherine Anfinson.

Joyce Annetta Wisler was born March 31, 1924, to Dwight L. and Myrtle (Gensinger) Wisler, in South Bend, Indiana. Joyce was only a few months old when the family moved to Zion, ND, where she was reared and attended school. Joyce worked for different families doing housework and also spent two winters in Chicago, Illinois, working for Bethany Hospital as a nurse’s aide. On February 26, 1945, Joyce married Pete Bjornstad in Lakota, ND. They lived on a farm southeast of Cando. Even though Joyce contracted polio when she was just a few months old, which left her left arm practically useless, that didn’t stop her from raising six active children. In May of 1981 they moved into Cando, ND. They enjoyed many winters in Chandler, Arizona beginning in January, 1977. Joyce was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Cando, now known as Christian Fellowship Church. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, doing crafts and painting, which included painting on cream cans, saws, mailboxes, etc. Joyce kept a diary of daily happenings since 1941. She also made several scrap books with articles gleaned from the Towner County Record Herald and other sources. She always had her camera handy, so as a result has many photo albums full of memories. Joyce loved spending time with her kids and grandkids and the coffee pot was always on along with a plate full of goodies whenever family and friends stopped by. In 2017 they moved into Prairie View Estates congregate housing until December 31, 2019 when Pete moved into the nursing home in Cando, and Joyce went into Basic Care on January 1, 2020. Pete passed away on October 15, 2020. Joyce is survived by children, Norman Bjornstad of Maricopa, Arizona; Bobby (Nancy) Bjornstad of Carrington, ND; Sheila (Ron) Hartl of Dickinson, ND; Laona (Garth) Eggl, of Cando, ND; Royce (Charlene) Bjornstad of Crocker, MO; daughter-in-law, Mary Lue Bjornstad of Arkansas; and step-daughter Karen (Monte) Anderson of Minnesota, 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters: Ivadelle (Don) Cotton of Kansas and Cele (Wally) Rardon of Texas; brothers-in-law Steve Heisler of Cando and Ray Reid of Montana; sister-in-law Dorothy Bjornstad of Cando and numerous nephews and nieces. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 75 years, Pete; son, Carl Dwayne; great-great granddaughter Avalynn Rae Lunden; brothers, Dwayne and Billy Wisler; and sisters, Judy Heisler, Maxine Morgan, Rosalie Reid, Connie Martz and Darlene Howard.  Dennis Odden, 77, Grand Forks, N.D., died Wednesday, Sept. 15, in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Dennis was born April 15, 1944, in Park River, ND, the son of Palmer & Margaret (Levin) Odden. He grew up in Park River and graduated from Park River High School. He worked for the ND Highway Dept for 37 years, retiring in 1996. He made his home in Grand Forks. Dennis enjoyed watching TV, listening to music, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. He is survived by his sister, Pauline (Allen) Machovsky; niece, Toni Lafrenz; nephew, Dean Hryzan; great-niece, Claire and aunts, Donna Nissen & Carole Levin. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Katherine Phillipe; brothers-in-law, Edwin Lafrenz & Robert Phillipe and a niece, Cindy Hryzan. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 20, at Amundson Funeral Home with visitation from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Park River, ND.  Kenneth G. Morden, 73, of Cavalier, ND passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Sanford on Broadway, Fargo, ND, after a short battle with cancer. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, September 17th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Kenneth G. Morden was born June 27, 1948 at Cavalier, ND to George and Dorothy (Norgart) Morden. He grew up in Cavalier and graduated from Cavalier High School. Kenny lived and worked in Minneapolis and Fargo, ND. When he returned home to Cavalier, he worked on the family farm and was the broker for the Cavalier Potato Company. Things he enjoyed were cruising around town and especially crop tours, fishing trips, playing cards and the slot machines. He is survived by his sons: Chris (Missy) Morden, Cavalier, ND, K.C. Morden, Colt Morden and Alyssa Torkelson, St. Cloud, MN, grandchildren: Shaun, Brady, and Coby Morden, significant friend, Joline Lucier, Cavalier, ND, and his sister, Judy (Don) Johnson, Cavalier, ND. Preceding him in death were his parents.  Sheryl Renae Fisher was born May 25, 1961, to Victor Robert (Bob) and Esther (Dietrich) Fisher in Cavalier, ND. She graduated from Cavalier High School and lived her life in Cavalier and Mountain, ND. Her relationships with the Lord Jesus Christ and her family were very important to Sheryl.
Sheryl’s most treasured places to visit were her Fisher grandparents’ cabin in Minaki, Ontario, and her Dietrich grandparents’ farm near Glasston, ND. Other loves were birdwatching, parakeets, word puzzles, and country churches. When she was able, she enjoyed going on long walks and drives. In addition, for many years she was an avid Cavalier Tornadoes fan. Sheryl had a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed telling little jokes that she laughed at with great delight. Her sweet and gentle spirit will be greatly missed. Sheryl was preceded in death by her father, grandparents: Victor and Julia Fisher and Jacob and Isabel Dietrich, uncle: Donald Dietrich, aunt: Cynthia Hartje, and cousin: Todd Dietrich. Sheryl is survived by her mother, brother: Doug (Cinda) Fisher, niece: Kara (Jason) Clapp, nephews: Kurt (Londa) Backlund, Jacob (Jelena) Fisher and Benjamin (Bethany) Fisher, grand-nieces Sheyenne, Haddyn, Jade, Tennyson, and Makkedah, grand-nephews Jubal, Wyatt, Kallin, Finn, and Henry, and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sheryl Renae Fisher, 60, of Cavalier, ND, peacefully passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, ND. We rejoice that she is now in the presence of her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 pm at the Cavalier Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm. on Saturday, September 25, 2021. A graveside service will take place immediately afterwards at the Cavalier Cemetery. The funeral will be available to be viewed at www.askewfunerlhome.com on Sheryl’s obituary following the service on Saturday. Please wear masks in the sanctuary during the visitation and funeral.
