Cyril M. Novak, age 92 of Grafton, ND passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020 at his home in Grafton. Cyril Marcel Novak was born June 12, 1927 in Prairie Center Township, Walsh County, ND the son of the late Anton and Margaret (Barta) Novak. He grew up and attended school there. Cy served in the US Army from September of 1946 to December of 1947, serving in Japan. Upon his discharge he returned home and attended Hanson’ s Tech School in Fargo. After graduating he started working at Silliman’s Implement in Park River. He met Delores Wooldridge there and the couple married on November 23, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Cyril went to work for Wilson Brother’s in Grafton and worked there for 38 years. He also had a windshield repair business. He drove potato truck for Torkelson Farms and beet truck for Keeley Brothers. Cyril was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was the DDP chairman under Fr. Lommel for 2 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3918, Grafton VFW and Grafton American Legion Posts. He volunteered at the Walsh County Food Pantry and washed dishes at the parish center. He enjoyed bowling and wood working and was proud of the 1929 Chevrolet that he restored. Cyril is survived by his wife of 64 years, Delores J. Novak, Grafton, ND; his children: Kimberly Novak, Barnesville, MN; Keith (Nancy) Novak, Fairfax, VA; Curtis (Laurie) Novak, Crary, ND; Carmen Toso, Duluth, MN; Brian (Stacy) Novak, Baudette, MN; Bradley (Hope) Novak, Grand Forks, ND; Grandchildren: Sarah McCullough, Katie Krob, Tina Skaflen, Adelle Novak, Alan Ravy, Tawnya Azar, Ryan Novak, Melissa Gilbert, Tommy Novak, Emily Ruch, Dominic Novak, Derek Novak, Karen Novak, Jonathan Novak, Elijah Novak, Sean Novak, Christopher Novak, Austin Novak, Daniel Novak; 10 great grandchildren, his brother, Leonard Novak, Grafton, ND; sister: Doris Wilhelmi, Blue Earth, MN; sisters-in-law; Elaine Novak, Dorothy Novak, Ruth Wooldridge and Alyce Veralrud. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Clair M. Novak in 1992, brothers: Tony, Vivian, Herman; sisters, Florence Pecka and Edith Ramsey Flint; brothers-in-law, Maynard Wooldridge, Dick Wilhelmi, Louis Lovcik, Gordon Veralrud and Russel Midgarden; sisters-in-law; Grace Midgarden, Carol Lovcik, Ellen Novak. Private family services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2020 with interment at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Mass of Christian Burial will be held after COVID-19 restrictions area lifted.

Alice M. Jorgenson, age 94 of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at the First Care Health Center of Park River, ND. Alice M. Jorgenson was born May 26, 1925 in Park River, ND the daughter of the late Olaf and Marie (Lorentzen) Jorgenson. She graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in 1943 and attended Business School in Minneapolis. She returned to Park River and started working at the First State Bank which later became First United Bank. She retired in 1999 after 55 years of service. She continued to make her home in Park River. Alice was a life-long member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Park River. She is survived by two nieces and two nephews: Ann Marie Denny, Laurie Jorgenson, Chuck Jorgenson and Phillip Jorgenson, seven great nieces and nephews and numerous great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister and a niece, Lynn Ellen Jorgenson. Funeral services will be live streamed on www.facebook.com/bethelbaptistpr on Friday, April 17, 2020 at 1:30 PM. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND. Karen Deborah (Corah) Peterson of Park River, ND died on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020 at the age of 66 in her daughter’s home in Grand Forks, ND surrounded by her family. Karen was born December 16, 1953 in Grafton, ND to Eilene (Rustebakke) and Emil Corah. She grew up on the farm with two sisters and attended school in Lankin, ND. She was married to Joseph Michael Peterson on June 28, 1985 and they resided on a farm near Park River. She moved to town shortly after Joe passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. She worked as a bartender at The Club and the Alibi for 25 years and became a CNA at the Good Samaritan Center in Park River, where she was currently working for the last 20 years. Karen was named CNA of the year in 2004 and had been nominated several times. She took pride in her job and was a very joyful, loving, dedicated and loyal worker. She loved being outdoors tanning on her deck, making jerky, canning salsa, camping, pontooning, gardening, baking, sipping cold beverages, spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She also enjoyed watching Ellen and The Vikings. Karen is survived by her children: Shannon (Kim) Novak, Grand Forks, ND; Debra (Paul) Gilbertson, Grand Forks, ND; Rhonda (Julian) Corona, Grand Forks, ND; and Amanda (Nikki) Peterson, Thief River Falls, MN; her grandchildren Heather & Haylee Novak, Madison Gilbertson, Skylar Sandvig, Cameron Anderson, Uriyah Corona, Hayden Olson, Ty Olson, Landyn Olson and Cooper Deziel and her mother-in-law, Betty Peterson, Colorado Springs, CO. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, parents and sisters: Marlys Carlson and Janice Kosobud. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, private services will be held on Joe’s Birthday, April 9, 2020 at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Edna Elaine (Skjervem) Johnson, of Park River, formerly of Fordville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 3rd at First Care Health Center in Park River, ND, at the age of 91. Edna was a kind and quiet person who focused on family and friends. She enjoyed family get-togethers and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Edna was born on November 22, 1928, in rural Fordville, ND, to Edwin and Melvina (Enerson) Skjervem. She graduated from Dahlen High School in 1946. She went on to earn a teaching certificate at Mayville State University. Edna taught at country schools before she married Gerald Johnson in 1951. The couple had 4 children and lived in rural Fordville where they farmed until 1986. After the children were grown, Edna worked as a CNA at the Sunset Home in Grafton, ND. After retiring she lived in Park River. Edna was an active and dedicated member of the Quale Lutheran Church, Quale WELCA, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Edna is survived by her children David (Cathy) Johnson of Park River, Ellen Meyer of Grafton, Lynn (Connie) Johnson of Grafton, and Kevin (Kelli) Johnson of Dahlen; brother Leland Skjervem of Grand Forks; sisters Alice Fontaine of Grand Forks, and Evy Peterson of Grand Forks; 11 grandchildren: DeeJay (Shannon) Johnson, Mari (Jaime) Bennington, Kristen Johnson, Lana (Jay) Nicholas, Jason (Amber) Meyer, Jared Meyer, Jackie (Justin) Vanderlinden, Katie (Alex) Stock, Jessica (Robbie) Braathen, Nicholas Johnson, and Kaylee (Andrew) Glaser; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband, Gerald Johnson; brothers Oris Skjervem and Kenneth Skjervem; sisters Clarine Agre and Helen Marcks; and her parents. Due to the Covid19 crisis, a small family burial service will take place at the Quale Lutheran Church cemetery with Larry Omdahl officiating. A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at a later date.
