 Ann M. Berg, age 83, resident of Edmore, ND, died Thursday, January 30, 2020 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Devils Lake, ND.
Ann Marie Davis was born August 2, 1936 in Devils Lake, the daughter of Michael and Harriet (Heddon) Davis. She was raised and educated in Edmore, ND, graduating with the class of 1954. Ann married Kenneth Berg on May 16, 1955 in Nekoma, ND. They lived in Grafton until moving to Langdon in 1957. In 1967 they moved to Edmore, where Ann raised and cared for her family. She cooked for a time at the Edmore Rest Home before cooking at the Edmore School for a number of years. Ann thoroughly enjoyed caring for her family and home, and always kept an eye on things. She loved to bake and always had treats on hand when company would stop by for a visit. She enjoyed camping, caring for her vehicles and her yard. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling with Kenny, most recently they had moved to Devils Lake. Ann loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Ann will be deeply missed by Kenny, her husband of 64 years; 4 children, Bruce (Tammy) Berg of Edmore, Greg (Becky) Berg of Fergus Falls, MN, Dean (June) Berg of West Fargo, ND, and Mary (Mike) Engh of Maddock, ND; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Aletta (Robert) Anderson of Bemidji, MN; and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Clinton Davis; and a great grandchild, Jude Berg. The Memorial Service for Ann will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore, ND, on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Spring at the Edmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

 Mary Lou R. Cyr, age 85 of Grafton, ND passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton, ND.
Mary Lou R. Gagner was born August 30, 1934 in Brooks, MN the daughter of the late Robert and Rose Anna (Mercil) Gagner. She attended elementary school in Brooks and graduated from Plummer High School. Following her education she moved to Minneapolis and worked for New York Life Insurance Company. Mary Lou was united in marriage to Vern Cyr on April 14, 1956 in Brooks, MN. The couple made their home in Oklee MN where they owned and operated Cyr’s Café. In January of 1969 the couple moved to Grafton, ND. Mary Lou worked at Wally’s Grocery Store, Carnegie Regional Library and Unity Hospital. Mary Lou became the Coordinator of the Foster Grand Parent Program at the Life Skills and Transition Center and retired from there after 19 years. She then did some part-time work for NDPERS, the Census Bureau and Grafton Elementary School as a part-time para and in the ESP program. Vern passed away on June 30, 1993. Mary Lou was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society of Oakwood, ND. She held offices in the Grafton American Legion Auxiliary and served as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed spending time at Lake of the Woods with her family. She is survived by her children: Joni Cyr, Eugene, OR; Carol (Dan) LaHaise, Grafton, ND; Helen Lee, Grafton, ND; Lou Cyr, Eugene, OR; Robert Cyr, Oakwood, ND; David (Lori) Cyr, Oakwood, ND; seven grandchildren: Zyra (Michael) Beevers, Tara LaHaise (Chris Otto), Elizabeth (Matt) Riccio, Leilani Lee (George Flores), Jacques LaHaise, Allison (Zach) Smith, Jacob (Kate) Cyr, seven great grandchildren and one more expected soon, two great great grandchildren and siblings: Mae Wichterman, Monticello, MN; Angela Stone, Champlin, MN; Rolland (Nancy) Gagner, Erskine, MN; Barbara (Vernon) LaCoursiere, Tucson, AZ; Clarence (Dianne) Gagner and Poncho (Char) Gagner both of Brooks, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five brothers. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 27, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 PM with a prayer service at 5:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Abby Christine Stark, age 41 of Wahpeton, ND, formerly of Grafton, ND passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at her home in Wahpeton.
Abby Christine Stark was born July 20, 1978 in Grafton, North Dakota, the daughter of Steven Stark and the late Valerie (Havis) Stark. She graduated from Grafton High School and attended Northland Community Technical College in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. She returned to Grafton and had her children, Ava and Rocco. She worked at the AmericInn and the Lutheran Sunset Home. In 2007, she met the love of her life, James Campbell. The couple moved to Wahpeton. On February 21, 2019, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and fought a courageous battle. She was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church. Abby loved her children, loved to laugh, jokes and America’s Funniest Home Videos. She was super crafty and liked to refurbish old things, walking, outdoors and country cruising. Abby is survived by her children: Ava Hepokoski, Edinburg, ND; Rocco Hepokoski, Edinburg, ND; father, Steven Stark, Grafton, ND; the love of her life, James Campbell, Wahpeton, ND; James’ daughter, Peytun Campbell, Grand Forks, ND; the father of her children, John Hepokoski, Edinburg, ND. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her mother, Valerie Stark; paternal grandparents, Gordon and Donna Stark; maternal grandparents, James and Vivian Havis. Memorial services will be Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Clarence W. Curran, 85, of Grand Forks, ND passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, January 12, 2020 in the Transitional Care Unit of Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks.
Clarence William Curran was born on May 18, 1934 in Grafton, ND the son of William and Mary (Danielski) Curran. Upon the completion of his education, he began farming with his father near Minto, ND. He was employed with Borden Potato Plant in Grafton during the winter months. Clarence enlisted in United States Marine Corps on September 7, 1956 at Minneapolis, MN and served as a heavy truck specialist. He was honorably discharged from military service on September 5, 1958 at 29 Palms, California. He returned to Minto and continued to farm the family homestead. Clarence married Jeanette Wesolowski on May 5, 1973 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Grafton. He served on the Minto Elevator Board, Harrison Township Board, and the Farmer’s Union Oil Company Board. He retired from farming in 1996 and in 2005 Clarence and Jeanette moved to Grand Forks and they both enjoyed traveling. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette and 4 daughters, Christine (Ricky) Aberle, Minot, ND, Cheryl (Patrick) Wasylow, Grand Forks, ND, Julie (Travis Hoffart) Amanullah, Portland, ND, and Janel (Jay) Mercil, Detroit Lakes, MN; and 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Marvin French, Grafton, ND; a sister-in-law, Peggy Curran, Thief River Falls, MN; several nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in law and mother-in-law, Dominick and Effie Wesolowski; a brother, Paul Curran; sister-in-law, Geraldine French and a son-in-law, Aman Amanullah. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2020 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Erma Mae (Hedman) Raney, 93, passed away peacefully at Woodside Village, 4000 Valley Square, Grand Forks, North Dakota on Sunday, January 12, 2020.
Erma was born in Drayton, North Dakota on May 1st, 1926 to Harry and Amelia Jensen. Erma graduated from Drayton Public School and was a lifelong member of Skjeberg Lutheran Church. She married Harland Hedman of Drayton in 1944 and together they had six children. They made their home in Robbin, Minnesota. Sadly, Harland passed away in 1962 at the age of 40. In 1969, Erma married Robert Raney and became the stepmother to his eight children. If you asked Erma what was most important in her life, it is no secret that she would say her faith in Jesus. This faith manifested itself through the love she shared for everyone she encountered – her family, her friends, her community, and even strangers (they would soon become friends to Erma!). She had a zest for life that was infectious and you would often see her belting out a tune (the alto harmony of course), baking her famous buns, serving "lunch", dancing, laughing, and sending her special love and prayers. She was unselfish, generous, joyful, humble, and showed unconditional love to all. Family members include: children Gary (Renee) Hedman, Ada, MN; Carolyn Dahl, Parker, CO; Connie (Lee) Meier, St. Augusta, MN; Neil (Kari) Hedman, Moorhead, MN; Mark (Karen) Hedman, Greenbush, MN; stepchildren Beth Raney, Susan (David) Black; Helen (Gary) Gloege; David (Shirley) Raney; Emmagene (Bill) Allen; Phil (Sue) Raney; Les (Joelle) Raney; Dorinda (Stan) Visness; 47 grandchildren, 116 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister Harriet Johnson, Grafton, ND; sister-in-law Shirley Jensen, Drayton; nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Erma was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Harland and Robert; son, Jan Hedman; stepson George Raney; grandchildren Chad Hedman and Heidi Hedman Frie; her brother, Larry Jensen; brother-in-law Harris Johnson; nephew Michael Jensen and niece, Amber (Johnson) Redmann. The family would like to express their gratitude to the loving caregivers at Woodside Village and also to Pastor Jon Dryburgh and the Skjeberg family. Funeral services are rescheduled for Sunday, January 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in Skjeberg Lutheran Church, rural Drayton. Interment will be in the Skjeberg Lutheran Cemetery. Koropatnicki, 86, of Langdon, ND, passed away January 12, 2020, at her home in Langdon.
Joy Delaine Berger was born November 26, 1933, in Osnabrock, ND, to Ingvald and Johanna (Pearl) Berger. She later moved to Crystal, ND, and worked at the café her mother owned where she met her husband, Mike. Joy and Michael Koropatnicki were married August 19, 1950, in St. Thomas, ND. They lived in Backoo, ND, and started their family farm where they raised ten children. In 1977, they moved to Langdon. Joy’s grandchildren wrote- “Grandma is beautiful, understanding, and the most beautiful human we have ever met, and we are so lucky to call her ours.” Joy is survived by her sister, Carol Almond, of Edmore, ND; children: Fred (Stacey) of Mandan, ND, Kahn (Jody) of Northwood, ND, Frank (Karen) of Langdon, Daniel (Sue) of Jamestown, ND, Rick (Vivian) of Portal, ND, Freeman (Shannon) of New Town, ND, and Kevin (Julie) of Plummer, ID; grandchildren: Travis, Tyler, Lynsee, Brittiany, Kenny, Ashley, Marla, Courtney, Chantell, Summer, Natasha, Brianna, Dalton, Dusty, Chris, Misty, Tammy, Trevor, Alecia, Walker, Kasey, Lacey, Stacha, and Gabriella; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Michael; special friend Wilfred Michels; children: Kathy, Connie, and David; grandchildren: Kaidean Koropatnicki, Ray Haugen, and Tate Koropatnicki; great-grandchild McCoy Koropatnicki; and siblings Orlin (Pike) Berger and Eileen Feltman. Luke J. Suda, age 87 of Park River, ND passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center.
Luke J. Suda was born August 13, 1932 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Wences and Gaddie (Spale) Suda. He attended rural school near Veseleyville, ND. Following his education he farmed with his father until being drafted into the United States Army in October, 1953. He was stationed in Japan for 18 months. Upon his discharge in August of 1955 he returned home and started farming. Luke was united in marriage to Geraldine Gerszewski on June 20, 1956 in Ardoch, ND. The couple lived and farmed north of Veseleyville. He later started a haying service with his brother Rudy called Suda Brothers Haying. In the mid-1970’s Luke started buying and selling used machinery and later scrap metal. In 2004 the couple moved to Grafton and Luke started working on appliances, mainly clothes dryers. He also worked at the bottle shop part-time. In February of 2014 the couple moved to the Park River Good Samaritan Center. Geraldine passed away on October 14, 2015. Luke was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Veseleyville, ND. He was a member of the POLKA Club and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Luke loved to visit and would talk with anyone about anything. He is survived by his children: Kevin (Lori) Suda, Mandan, ND; Paulette Weisz, Mora, MN; grandchildren: Anthony (Cora) Suda, Allison (Michael) Malkowski, Kyle (JoAnn) Tingum, Karli Weisz, six great grandchildren and his siblings: Bridget Votava, Grand Forks, ND: Irene (John) Janda, Veseleyville, ND; Edith Korynta, Fargo, ND; Sylvester (Rullie) Suda, Fish Kill, NY and Rudy (Kathy) Suda, Borup, MN. Melford D. “Mike” Callahan, age 83 of Grafton, ND passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton.
Mike Callahan was born October 18, 1936 in Forest River, ND the son of the late William and Bessie (Bruce) Callahan. He graduated from High School in Fairdale, ND and attended Mayville State University for two years. Mike served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959 serving in England. Upon his discharge he moved to Grafton, ND and worked in the Recreation Department at the Life Skills and Transition Center from 1961-1999. Mike married Sue Gaustad on June 2, 1978 in Grafton where the couple made their home. Mike was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he served as greeter. He was involved with the Community Christmas Eve Party at the church for a number of years. He was a member of the Grafton Eagle’s Club where he served as president from 1982-83. He was a member of the Grafton Boosters Club, coached elementary girls and boys basketball, umpired and coached softball, baseball and refereed basketball. He was one of Grafton’s most dedicated Spoiler Fans. He enjoyed listening to Brent Herman’s play the piano and never missed a Piano Talk. Mike is survived by his wife, Sue of Grafton, ND; sisters and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Margaret (Al) Bolster and Marie (Joe) Cowley and brothers: Murphy (Harriet), Morris and Marvin Callahan. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 13, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the St. John’s Catholic Church. Friends may also call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring. Military rites will be provided by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. (Hanson) Morrison, 93, formerly of Bathgate and Cavalier, ND, died peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Touchmark Memory Care in Fargo. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 10, 2019 at the Bathgate Presbyterian Church, Bathgate, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Memorials are preferred to Bathgate Presbyterian Church, Bruce Cemetery, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
Adeline was born September 14th, 1926 to John A. and Clara (Rusten) Hanson of rural Osnabrock, ND. Adeline graduated from Langdon High School in 1944 and attended Valley City State Teacher’s College for a couple of summers, then taught at various country schools in Cavalier and Pembina Counties from 1944 through 1952. Adeline and Alwin Morrison were married June 6, 1953, at North Dovre Lutheran Church near Osnabrock, and lived and farmed in the Neche and Bathgate, ND area. Adeline spent many summer hours tending the yard, flower gardens and a garden which included strawberries and raspberries. They moved to Cavalier, ND in 2001, and Alwin passed away in 2003. Paintings (oil and watercolor) became a wonderful hobby, and that evolved into china painting – which she enjoyed for many years. Quilting, reading, and scrapbooking are other activities she enjoyed. Adeline was an active member of the Neche American Legion Auxiliary, the Walhalla Brush Brunch, and Bathgate Presbyterian Women. Adeline played piano and organ for the Bathgate Presbyterian Church for many years. She enjoyed writing letters - and liked to keep in touch with family and friends, including corresponding with her pen-pal Else in Denmark for over 70 years. Adeline is survived by her children: Valerie Morrison, Bloomington, MN; Virginia Morrison, Fargo, ND; Sandra (Fred) Marquardt, Cavalier, ND; Bruce (Marni) Morrison, Fargo, ND. Grandchildren: Danielle (Kevin) Erdmann, Mitchell, SD; Jared (Annie) Marquardt, Grafton, ND. Great-grandchildren: Gabrielle Erdmann, Ian Erdmann, Graham Marquardt, Vera Marquardt. Adeline is also survived by her siblings: Gordon (Norma) Hanson, La Plata, MD; Edith Johnson, Fargo, ND; Floyd Hanson, Grand Forks, ND; Carol Jean Mostad, Brookings, SD and sisters-in-law Vi Hanson and Geri Morrison.
