 Alice J. Gillies Midboe, age 94 of Park River, ND passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at the First Care Health Center of Park River.
Alice J. Erovick was born July 21, 1925 in Park River, ND the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Vavrosky) Erovick. She attended schools in Park River, ND. Following her education she worked in various places throughout the United States. She returned to Park River and was united in marriage to Roy Joseph Gillies. The couple made their home in Park River where she did seasonal farm labor. She later worked at the Club Bar and managed the Alibi Bar for several years. Roy passed away in July of 1973. Alice married Marvin Midboe on February 25, 1993 in Park River where they made their home. Alice and Marvin enjoyed a wonderful life together. They traveled to many states in their little TravelVan with their dogs, Dogie and Hercules. When they weren’t traveling or out dancing, they loved entertaining people at their farmhouse. There were many picnic’s with great food, visiting, guitar playing and singing. He passed away on November 3, 2015. Alice was a member of the Park River Federated Church and the Park River American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered with the Meals on Wheels Program for several years. Alice was an avid bird watcher and gardener. Once she grew a giant sunflower in her front yard and she and her “Flower” were pictured in the Walsh County Press. She loved and cared for animals, great and small. Recently, Alice’s greatest pleasure came from her 2 O’clock coffee parties. Anyone and everyone were welcome. We will all miss those special times. She was a big Twins fan and loved her Twins T-shirt given to her by a neighbor. Alice is survived by her daughters: Joan Mastre, Park River, ND; Mari (Don) Swartz, Grafton, ND; stepsons: Duane (Kathy) Midboe, Climax, MN and George Midboe, Inkster, ND; granddaughter: Sami (Christian) Dahl, Minot, ND and five step grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, grandson Timothy Mastre and son-in-law, Ron Mastre. Funeral services will be held at the Park River Federated Church when the COVID-19 Restrictions have been lifted.

Hilda I. Clark, 86, of Walhalla, ND. entered into eternal life surrounded by family on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Pembilier Nursing Center, in Walhalla where she has spent her last 14 months and the past four days under Hospice Care. Hilda was born August 14, 1933 to Adolf and Olga (Stegman) Latozke in Neche, ND. She grew up on the farm by Neche, graduated from Cavalier High School and attended Mayville Teachers College. On November 13, 1953 she married Lewis Clark and lived in Walhalla. From that time she worked for Barta’s Super Valu, Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla Coop Oil, and other various jobs. She loved watching her grandchildren and cooking for them, especially date filled cookies. Hilda also enjoyed spending time with family, her cats, and walking her dog Poocher. Other pastimes include sewing, knitting, crocheting and reading. Hilda is survived by her children: Fred ”Pete” Clark of Maricopa, AZ, Floyd (Patty) Clark and Karen (Tim) Smith all of Walhalla, ND; grandchildren: Ted(Tori) Clark, Caitlin(Matt) Eck, Ashley (Andrew) Danielson, Jamie(Jeremy) Blodgett, Joel(Kelsey) Smith, and Michael(Alison) Smith; great grandchildren: Austin, Lauren, Kyla, Weston, Dominic, Kelly, and William. Along with several in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, daughter, Kay (Larry) Nielson; brothers: Edward, Arthur, Alfred, Paul, Irwin Latozke; sisters: Evelyn (Keil), Doris ( Armstrong) Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church, Walhalla, ND. Chapin E. Gustafson, 80, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, ND. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer and Masonic Service at the United Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the United Lutheran Church or the Crohns and Colitis Foundation at 2217 Highway 36 W, Roseville, MN 55113. Chapin E. Gustafson was born January 16, 1940 at Grafton, ND to Clifford and Nora (Loftus) Gustafson. He grew up in Adams, ND, where he graduated from Adams High School, then attended Mayville State College. He then returned to Adams, where he worked at the family car dealership. He moved to Cavalier where he worked at the First State Bank until his retirement. Chappy married Shirley Johnson and together they had one daughter, Sharyl “Shari” Ann. After his retirement he worked for area farmers and also at the Askew Funeral Home. Chappy was a member of the Tongue River Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, the 49’ers and Kem Temple Shrine, and Order of the Eastern Star. He also enjoyed golfing and was the treasurer of the Cavalier Country Club for over 30 years. While a member of United Lutheran Church, he served on the church council and was active in other church functions. Chappy lived life to the fullest and enjoyed close connections with many people. He is survived by his daughter, Sharyl “Shari” Gustafson, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren: Anthony Herbel and Camilla Herbel; his longtime companion, Janet Greenwood and her family, Cheryl (Reid) Hegland and Bryan (Darrilyn) Greenwood and their children, Amia and Jon. He is also survived by his siblings: Merle (Marjorie) Gustafson, Deanna Knudson, two nephews and three nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents and one nephew.  Ronald M. Whaley, 89, of Fordville, ND went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at First Care Health Center in Park River with his loving family by his side.
Ronald was a very kind, humble, and selfless man focusing his energy on his family and friends. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s many activities. Ronald was born July 10, 1930 at home in rural Fordville to Ralph and Rachel (Gillespie) Whaley. He attended country school through grade two and then attended Fordville Public School graduating valedictorian of his class in 1948. Following high school, Ronald graduated from NDSCS and served in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge, Ronald worked at Douglas Aircraft in El Segundo, CA for a brief period, but soon returned to the family farm in ND where he spent his life farming with his father, sons and grandsons until the age of 88. He especially enjoyed operating John Deere equipment. Ronald was united in marriage to Mary J. Amundson of Inkster, ND November 16, 1958. The couple made their home on the family farm until moving to town in 1994. Ronald was a member of Fordville Lutheran Church, the Fordville Co-op Elevator Board of Directors and the American Legion. He had a lifelong passion for aviation ultimately earning his private pilot’s certificate in 1986. Ron and Mary spent winters in Arizona where they enjoyed the warm weather and golf. He is survived by his wife, Mary of 61 years, their children Leslie (Raymond) Durkin, Kent (Debra) Whaley and Lowell (Lesa) Whaley; eight grandchildren: Eric (Kristine) and Brent (Kayla) Durkin, Ryan (Jacy), Shane (Jocelyn) and Jack Whaley, Kirsten, Nicholas, and Karina Whaley; and three great grandchildren: Brecken, Hayden, and Cora Whaley; his sisters: Maxine (Kenneth) Rusten and Joyce (Ron) Clark; sisters-in-law Shirley Amundson, Dorothy Amundson, and Margaret Woods; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elda Mae Whaley and Marjorie Hodena, brothers-in-law, James Hodena, George and Tom Amundson, and Robert Woods. Niece: Linda Mayfield. Visitation will be Sunday, March 15 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Fordville Lutheran Church in Fordville with a prayer service at 4. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Monday. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 16 at Fordville Lutheran Church. Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fordville. Military Honors will be provided by the Rotnem-Abel Post 274 of the Fordville American Legion and the North Dakota Army National Guard Honor Team.  Larry J. Dumas, 100, of Walhalla, ND passed away Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held Monday, March 9th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary and prayer service at the church.
Larry J. Dumas was born March 6, 1920 at Langdon, ND to Albert and Lorene (Schwartz) Dumas. He grew up in Walhalla, where he spent his entire life. Larry then served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. During WWII, Larry served in the OSS (Office of Strategic Service) as a Guard Patrolman and Rifle Expert in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. While in Walhalla, he worked for area farmers and also worked at the Walhalla Creamery and Motor Coach Industries in Pembina until his retirement. In his spare-time he enjoyed raising poultry. In August of 1949, Larry married Lorraine Reidhammer at Langdon, ND. After she passed away, he later married Ida Rousseau. He is survived by his children: Duane (Linda) Dumas, Hoople, ND, LaVerne (Sandy) Dumas, Alma, CO, Dennis (Cynthia) Dumas, West Fargo, ND, Wanda (Steve) Wilhelmi, Westland, MI, and Penny (Tim) Stegman, Cavalier, ND.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings: Sally O’Hara, Richard Dumas, Marlene Hugley, Lucille Dahl, Robert Dumas, and Cecelia (Wallace) Lafferty; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; wives, Lorraine and Ida; infant daughters, Diane and Candy; grandsons, Michael and Jamie; and siblings: Leo, Gilbert, Elaine, Beverly, Dorothy, and Albert Jr. “Buddy.”  Irene Menke, 93, formerly of Neche and Cavalier, ND passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Valley Senior Living, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral service will be held Friday, March 6, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services.
Irene was born May 29, 1926 at Altona, Manitoba to Peter and Helena (Brown) Friesen. On February 20, 1944, she married Christopher A. Menke at Neche, ND. She worked as a waitress for 40 years at various area cafes. Irene enjoyed her flower gardens, baking, crafts, and volunteering at the Thrift Store in Cavalier. She is survived by her sons: DuWayne (Carol) Menke, Hudson, WI, Larry Menke, Chicago, IL, Donald (Kathy) Menke, Bottineau, ND; daughter-in-law ,Gwen Menke, Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Emery Friesen. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chris; son, James; and brothers, Arnold and Raymond.  Darla Huderle, age 77, of Fordville, ND, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Darla was born June 18, 1942 at rural Fordville, the daughter of Edgar and Martha (Ward) Pfannsmith. She was raised and grew to womanhood at Fordville and graduated from Fordville High School. She then attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND for 2 years, and then attended a beauty school in 1971. Darla operated a beauty shop in Fordville and later in Warren, MN. Darla was united in marriage to Duane Huderle on October 9, 1976 in Fordville. After their marriage the couple lived and made their home at rural Tabor, MN. Mr. Huderle preceded her in death on March 20, 2017. Darla returned to Fordville following his death. Surviving members of her family include her children: Lynn Baier, Fordville; Tammy (Michael) Murphy, Columbus, Georgia; Cindy (Jonathan) Moreland, Grand Forks; 6 grandchildren: Bethany (John Tamez) Baier, Shelby (Karson Henke) Baier, Timothy, Michael and Marc Murphy and Courtney Moreland; 1 great-grandchild Bryndle Henke; her sister Elsie (Ron) Shereck, Tabor, MN; brother-in-law Don (Rubie) Brintnell, Devils Lake; sister-in-law Deb Pfannsmith, Fordville and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane, grandson Joseph Baier, sister Betty Brintnell and brother Clyde Pfannsmith. FUNERAL SERVICES: 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 in the First Presbyterian Church of Fordville. VISITATION: One hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday. INTERMENT: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fordville.  Theresa A. Dahlgren, age 87 of Fargo, ND and formerly of the Adams/Fairdale area passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, ND.
Theresa Ann Burianek was born October 6, 1932 in Veseleyville, ND the daughter of the late John and Agnes (Dusek) Burianek. She attended rural school there. Following her education she did housework for area families. When she was growing up, her brothers had a polka band and they would go around performing at area dances. Theresa followed her brothers and it was a dance they were playing for where she met Myron “Mike” Dahlgren. The couple married on June 14, 1954 in Veseleyville. They lived and farmed in the Adams/Fairdale area where they had a grain and dairy farm. Theresa was a typical farm wife, helping to haul grain and cooking huge meals for her growing family of 12. She always had fresh baked goods and fresh milk, so who ever stopped by the farm always got a treat. She had a tremendous faith and never missed Mass on Sunday. After the children had grown and left the farm the couple traveled to Texas a couple of times. Theresa also made trips to London, England and Czechoslovakia. Myron passed away in April of 2001. Theresa was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church of Lomice and Altar Society and later St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Lankin. She was a member of the Qually-Dvorak American Legion Auxiliary of Adams, ND. Theresa is survived by her children: Colleen (John) Kram, Bismarck, ND; Roland, Fordville, ND; Karl, Grafton, ND; Doreen (David) Drinkard, Marble Falls, TX; Fredric (Roberta), Truth & Consequences, NM; Malcom (Margo), Adams, ND; Loreen, Grafton, ND; Daren, Mesa, AZ; Erleen (John) McCanna, West Fargo, ND; Noel, Osnabrock, ND; Oreen Kirkpatrick, London, England; Franceen Maroney, Maple Grove, MN; 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and brother, Daniel (Delores) Burianek, Grafton, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandchildren and siblings: Joseph, Johnnie, Amby, Vendelyn and Stanny Barta. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 6, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Park River, ND. Visitation will be Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
