Larry F. Durand, age 78 of Grafton, ND passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton, ND. Larry Francis Durand was born June 4, 1941 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Wilfred and Arbella (Demers) Durand. He attended school in Oakwood, ND, Kelso, WA and graduated from Grafton High School in 1959. After a short time in the US Navy he enrolled at Mayville University in the fall of 1961, graduating in 1965 with a BS Degree in Business and Music. He received a Masters Degree in Education from NDSU in 1970. Larry began his work in education in the fall of 1965 and continued for 45 years, serving as Superintendent for 33 years. He also served as the coordinator for the Northern Red River Valley ITV System for a number of years. Larry married Shirley Demester on August 19, 1967 in Grafton, ND. They made their home in Braddock and Hoople before moving to Grafton in 1975. Larry and Shirley enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor home wintering in Arizona and California. Larry was an avid golfer and was a member of the Fair Oaks and Larimore Golf Clubs. He loved to spend time with his two granddaughters. Larry is survived by his wife, Shirley, Grafton, ND; daughter: Jaime (Chris) Mattson, Grafton, ND; two granddaughters: Alyza and Brynnlie; brother, Lloyd Durand, Madison, WI: and sister-in-law, Patty Durand, Oakwood, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Todd, infant sister, Angeline and brother Melvin. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton, ND. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Grafton, ND in the spring.

Selma Rose Clemetson, age 97 of Park River, ND passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 13, 2020 surrounded by family. Anselma Rose Sobolik was born April 18, 1922 in Ops Township, Walsh County, ND the daughter of the late Adolph and Rose (Karnik) Sobolik. She attended rural school there and graduated Valedictorian from Pisek High School. Following her education she worked for Dr. Countryman and the Selz Family in Grafton, ND. In 1943 Selma enlisted in the United States Navy Waves, where she was chosen to serve as a Code Girl working at the Pentagon. Upon her discharge in 1945 she returned home where she met Clair Clemetson. The couple married on August 12, 1947 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Veseleyville. They made their home in Park River, ND where they worked and raised their five children. In 1964 the couple purchased the Club Bar. Clair passed away on September 22, 1971 after which, Selma continued to operate the bar until 1991. Selma was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, the First Care Hospital Auxiliary, Park River American Legion Auxiliary for 65 years, served on the Hospital Governing Board and was a member of the Morning Glories Mass and Coffee group. Selma loved to embroider dish towels, read, craft and work on puzzles. She had an amazing eye for detail and color. She also enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Selma is survived her children: Suzanne (Ron) Hall, Star, ID; Joanne (Lanny) Peterson, Park River, ND; Clair “Rick” (Tammy) Clemetson, Park River, ND; Tom (Patti) Clemetson, Atascadero, CA; Rodger Clemetson, Moral Bay, CA; 10 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, siblings: Berga Delvo, WA; Rosie Johnson, CO; Bernice Ablen, MN; and Sonny (Jean) Sobolik, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Florence Shaw. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 17, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Park River, ND. Visitation will be Monday for one hour prior to the service at the Church. Military rites will be provided by the Park River American Legion and the US Navy Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Park River, ND in the spring. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to the First Care Hospital Auxiliary or the Altru Hospice. Sherman J. Soli, 78, of Walhalla, ND, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020, at the Pembilier Nursing Center in Walhalla, ND. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the Walhalla Lutheran Church in Walhalla. Visitation will be held for one hour before the time of the service. Sherman was born on November 24, 1941, near Vang, ND, to Alvin and Ruth (Thompson) Soli. He grew up in the Vang area and graduated from Walhalla High School. After school Sherman enlisted in the US Army. After his discharge from the Army, Sherman returned to the Vang area to farm. Sherman married Geraldine Charbonneau and together they had two daughters Rachelle and Sabrina. Sherman enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughters: Rachelle (Joe) Barton, and Sabrina (Francis) Lafferty, all of Smithfield, PA; grandchildren: Bryce, Brody, and Bristol Barton, and Savannah Soli; great-grandson, Maverick; and siblings: Georgia Veer, Robert (Mary) Soli, and Orin (Francine) Soli. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Delores Soli. Lorraine Marie was born July 25, 1938, to Aristide and Cordelia (Gendreau) Beauchamp. She was born and raised on the family farm in Olga, ND. She was the last of eleven children and forever known as the baby. She graduated from Walhalla, ND high school in 1958. Lorraine was a special woman who had a heart of gold. Her greatest joys came in giving of herself to help others. It was her reason for living. Lorraine’s Top 11 List 1. The one great love of her life, her husband of 58 years, Orlo Mostad, who she married November 28, 1961. 2. Her two beloved daughters, Brenda and Jennifer, who she loved unconditionally. 3. The two greatest joys of her life, her granddaughters, Cora and Ariana Strickler. She would text them daily ensuring they knew they were loved and that Grandma and Grandpa were thinking of them. 4. Lorraine was a master bread maker. Her favorite part was sharing it with others. If you’ve tasted Lorraine’s bread, you’ve tasted love. 5. She enjoyed Doritos for breakfast. Better yet, she enjoyed sharing them with her granddaughters snuggled in beside her. 6. Lorraine loved going for walks. She was an endless source of energy and would walk every morning, most recently with her lifelong friend, Shirley Thom. 7. She loved talking to anyone in her path — people she knew and people she didn’t. It didn’t matter. Lorraine was a talker. 8. Lorraine was a nurturer of all things, from people to pets to plants. She was an epic gardener who grew tomato plants like no other, often turning a shade of crimson in the fall from her own over consumption. 9. She was a devout Catholic who never missed mass, because you never know what might happen if you did, and she wasn’t going to take chances. 10. Lorraine loved to crochet. She made the most beautiful afghans that continue to wrap her family in love. 11. Lorraine defined strength and bravery. She would care for loved ones without flinching, blow snow, mow lawns, chop wood, milk cows, clean barns, drive motorcycles, three-wheelers, and snowmobiles, all with the strength of six men and the grace of a lady. Lorraine was, and will forever remain a special woman with a heart of gold. She touched the lives of many. She was a strong, brave and kind role model for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Orlo, daughters Brenda Erickson (Charles Marlen), Jennifer (Bryan) Strickler, granddaughters Cora and Ariana Strickler, brothers Remi (Betty) Beauchamp and Edmund (Ruth) Beauchamp; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters and brothers-in-law: Jeanette and Orphela Lepire, Doris and Oscar Marcelin, Marcella and Barry Belanus; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Omer Beauchamp, Harvey Beauchamp, Richard and Rita Beauchamp, Hector and Charlotte Beauchamp, and Rolland Beauchamp. Lorraine M. Mostad, 81, Cavalier, ND peacefully joined God in Heaven on Friday, February 7, 2020. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 11th from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There will also be a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the church. Eric J. “Ike” Meberg, age 61 of Park River, ND passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at his home in Park River. Eric Meberg was born February 22, 1958 in Park River, ND, the son of the late Paul and Lorraine (Kjos) Meberg. He grew up and attended school there. He then attended NDSU for two years before returning to Park River to farm. He was united in marriage to Patricia Houle and the couple made their home in Park River. Eric is survived by his wife Patricia, siblings: Laura (Dave) Langemo, Luther (Linda) Meberg, Peter (Bernadette) Meberg, sister-in-law Mary Meberg, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Ardell Meberg, and brother Mark Meberg. A short prayer service will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 P.M. at the Church. (Roe) Woods, age 86 of Forest River, ND passed away peacefully at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, ND on Thursday, February 6, with her loving family by her side. Margaret was born on June 16, 1933, in Medina, ND. The daughter of the late Sig and Loretta (Meade) Roe. She graduated from Forest River High School in 1951 and attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks. She moved to Billings, Montana and returned to Forest River to marry her high school sweetheart, Jack, on July 30, 1955 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ardoch, ND. They made their home in Forest River, ND. Margaret was an active member of St. John’s Altar Society until the church closed. She was a member of the Forest River Legion Auxiliary, serving as treasurer for several years. She worked for Morwood Grocery and was the relief clerk at the Forest River Post Office for several years. Our mom loved people, having the “Gift of Gab”, but her deepest love was her faith, her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was our biggest cheerleader and rarely missed an opportunity to attend her children and grandchildren’s events. She was also well known for her delicious brownies!! Margaret is survived by her children: Colleen (Mark) Alphson, Forest River, ND; Coke (Tom) Tengwall, Spicer, MN; Cyndy (Jim) Scanlan, Bemidji, MN; Robert J. Woods, Forest River, ND; Cathy (Steve) Perkins, Spicer, MN. Ten grandchildren: Lisa (Steven) Schuster, Kristin (Ryan) Kasowski, Chris Tengwall, Erik Tengwall, Bri (Ben) Kinne, Jaclyn Scanlan, Joey Scanlan, Betsi (Jason) Arvin, John Perkins, and Nick Perkins. Great-grandchildren: Carter, Jaycee, and Henley Schuster, Kayson Kinne, Keeley Kasowski, Riley Jo Arvin and baby girl Arvin due in April. Margaret’s brothers: John (Arlene) Roe, Carl (JoAnn) Roe; sister: Joann Hop; sister-in-law: Irene (Russell) Roe, Jeanette (Robert) Roe, and Margaret M. (Bob) Woods. She was preceded in death by her husband, infant son: John Marvin, her parents, brothers: Russell and Robert and sister: OnaVee. Mary Beth Marciniak, 64 years, 11 months passed away at peacefully at her home in East Grand Forks, Minnesota on Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Mary Beth Rasmussen was born March 19, 1955 to the late John and Donna (Chester) Rasmussen in Grafton, North Dakota. She was raised in Grafton until the family moved to their farm in rural Drayton in 1969. Mary Beth graduated from Drayton High School in 1973. She later attended college at NDSSS in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Following school, Mary Beth was employed at the North Dakota State Highway Department and Lindblad Upholstery in Drayton. She was united in marriage to David L. Marciniak October 4, 1975. The couple was blessed with two children to whom she dedicated her life. The couple made their home in Drayton where she held various jobs in the area as well as farmed with her husband. Mary Beth owned and operated MB Ceramics and volunteered her spare time to many organizations such as the Girl Scouts and held office as Schumacher park board president. Mary Beth and David moved to the Twin Cities area in 2001 where Mary Beth served as a call center representative for Centerpoint Energy, winning many awards for outstanding service. Mary Beth was a dedicated family woman who valued her own with a passion that only her love of God surpassed. In spite of suffering her entire adult life with debilitating illnesses, her faith in Christ never faltered. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren who defined her later years. She took great pride in being “Granny”. Mary Beth was a great cook, homemaker and friend. She always had beautiful flower gardens and meticulously decorated homes. She took great pride in her surroundings. She is survived by her dedicated husband, David; children, Jed (Melissa) and Jennifer; her beloved grandchildren, Wyatt, Emma, Carson, Walker and Waylon; a sister, Susan (Troy) and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Donna Rasmussen and a sister, Jill Marie. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, February 10, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in Drayton Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Grafton City Cemetery. Rev. Gary Johnson, presiding; Shirley VanCamp, Karen Schumacher and Lisa VanCamp will provide special music. Casket bearers will be Andy Kirkeby, Tom Silewski, Todd Peterson, Christian Lange, Chase Lange, and Troy Lange. Visitation will be held at Austin Funeral Chapel in Drayton on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Thressa Nelson, age 42 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Sanford Health of Fargo, ND. Thressa Jonasson was born September 1, 1977 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of Pamela Lykken and the late Allen Jonasson. She grew up in Milton, ND and attended the Milton/Osnabrock schools, graduating in 1996. She attend Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, ND for a short time before returning home to care for her father. She later attended UND where she earned her Certified Dietary Manager Certificate. She was united in marriage to Lynn Nelson on May 18, 2002 in Edinburg. The couple made their home in Edinburg and she worked as a CDM for Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier, Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon and later the Borg Home in Mountain until her health forced her to retire in July 2019. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg. She enjoyed cooking, being in the outdoors, country cruising, collecting frog memorabilia, her dogs and spending time with her family. Thressa is survived by her husband Lynn of Edinburg, son Brody Nelson, Edinburg, ND, mother Pamela Lykken, Osnabrock, ND, siblings Eugene Jonasson, Grafton and Loneta (Douglas Hall) Jonasson, Edinburg, ND, nephew Tristin Hall and niece Katelyn Hall of Edinburg, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Allen Jonasson and father and mother-in-law, Irvin and Doreen Nelson. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 5:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg. A visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 P.M. at the funeral home. Vernon R. Fitzsimonds, 93, of Walhalla, ND passed away Monday, February 3, 2020 at his home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Park Center-Walhalla Presbyterian Church, Walhalla, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Pembilier Nursing Center or the Walhalla Ambulance Service. Vernon was born April 13, 1926 at Walhalla, ND to Robert C. and Eva M. (McNamara) Fitzsimonds. He grew up in the Walhalla area. On October 3, 1946, Vernon married Kathleen Howell at Walhalla, ND. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Park Center area for many years. They later moved into Walhalla and to North Border Estates in 2007. Vernon enjoyed being at the farm, working in his garden, antiquing and spending time with his family. He was a director of the Walhalla Farmers Elevator, Walhalla State Bank, and the Federal Land Bank. Vernon also served on the church board and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Vernon is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children: Kay Gonitzke, Billings, MT and Robert (Cynde) Fitzsimonds, Walhalla, ND; grandchildren Jonathan, Kristin, and Lindsay Gonitzke; Jaci Fitzsimonds (Jonas Udcoff) and Ryan (Chris) Fitzsimonds; great-grandchildren: Jesse, Ashley, Payson, Keiran and Adah; Jett and Jevin; Kealie, Myah, Logan, Teagyn, and Nash.
