Richard Kulas, age 73 of Fargo, ND passed away peacefully on August, 11th 2022 in his home. Richard was born to Emil and Rose (Kosmatka) Kulas on February, 19th 1949 in Grafton, ND. He spent his childhood being raised in Grafton, ND on McCulley Farms where his father was employed. He enjoyed helping out his father in the sugar beet fields. The family later moved to Hoople, ND in 1963 where Richard enjoyed fast cars, football and basketball at Hoople High School where he graduated in 1967. Richard was drafted into the Army but then enlisted for a 3 year term in 1967 where he subsequently served 1 tour of duty serving as an infantryman in the Vietnam War. He received an Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious service and a Purple Heart Award for wounds received in action. Upon his discharge from active duty in 1970, he attended college courses at UND (in engineering) and NDSU (in pharmaceuticals) while working part time as a bartender at the Black Angus lounge in Fargo, ND. Richard continued his service with the Army Reserve as a combat engineer while simultaneously owning and operating Kulas Trucking from 1978 - 1983. He continued his service with the Army Reserves where he spent both full time and part time enlistments. He later retired from the Army Reserves having over 20 years of service in total. In 1990 he started a career with the U. S. Postal Service in Fargo, ND where he was employed for over 20 years and retired in 2012. Richard met Rebecca (Wiltse) Suchla in the summer of 1979 in Fargo and were married from 1980 - 1996. They were blessed with three sons, including one set of twins. In his adult years he stayed active by participating in and sponsoring multiple softball and bowling leagues. He enjoyed a cold beer in his free time and you could always count on him to buy a round! To stay busy in retirement, he took up driving locals around Fargo, ND for Uber. He also really enjoyed celebrating his February birthdays in Las Vegas with his sons! Richard is survived by his three sons, Zachary Kulas, San Francisco, CA, Austin (Amelia) Kulas and their son August, Texas City, TX and Bryce Kulas, Fargo, ND. His sister Darlene (Rodger) Peterson, Grand Forks, ND and a number of nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by father Emil Kulas, mother Rose (Kosmatka) Kulas, sister Phyllis Summers, brother Roger Kulas and sister Ruth Trent.
