Raymond Lyle Van Camp, 92, of Drayton passed away at Altru Hospital on Friday, June 17, 2022. Raymond was born September 27, 1929 to Alton and Gladys (Jamieson) Van Camp, in rural Drayton, North Dakota. Raymond grew up there and graduated from Drayton Public School in 1947. While attending high school he met Roberta Rae Newans. They were married in Moorhead, MN on October 13, 1947. They had four children, Mary Kathryn (Art) Reed of Carpinteria, CA, Michael Raymond (Rae Anne) of Grand Forks, ND, John Wesley (Patti) of Bemidji, MN, and Lyle Thomas (Lesa) of Drayton, ND. Raymond was a farmer and carpenter, and a lifelong member of the Drayton United Methodist Church where he served on the church board for many years. He also served on the Drayton Township Board, the Drayton Volunteer Ambulance Board, the Drayton Cemetery Association Board. He enjoyed gardening, mowing lawns, working on various projects in his garage, around the house, and around the farm, and also enjoyed being surrounded by his family. Raymond was an instrumental part of the founding of Valley News & Views. He served as the volunteer janitor and helped label many newspapers to be mailed over the decades. Raymond is survived by their four children, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Roberta, sister Reva, brothers Lorne and Carl, and grandson Jeff Steenerson. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Drayton United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Drayton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Drayton Volunteer Ambulance Service or the Drayton Cemetery Association.
