Pete Bjornstad, 102, of Cando, ND passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 2:00pm at the Christian Fellowship Church in Cando with Pastor Jeff Peters officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery rural Cando, ND. Casket bearers will be Rollie Bjornstad, Sig Bjornstad, Chris Bjornstad, Jens Bjornstad, Teddy Bjornstad and Peter Bjornstad. Music will be provided by Brenda Halverson. Per (Pete) Norman Bjornstad was born on March 14, 1918, to Sigurd and Martha (Stenberg) Bjornstad, at St. John, ND, and later moved to a farm by Rock Lake, ND. Pete attended grade school in Rock Lake, and later in Cando, ND graduating from high school in 1937. He then attended one year at the School of Forestry at Bottineau, ND. Pete was married to Dorothy Haas in 1940 and to that union, one child, Karen, was born. On February 26, 1945, Pete married Joyce Wisler in Lakota, ND. They lived on a farm southeast of Cando. Pete farmed. At the age of 33, Pete asked Jesus into his heart and was baptized in Snyder Lake in July, 1951. In 1954 he owned and operated the Oliver dealership for 15 years. He had the Honda Motorcycle dealership for around 11 years before selling it to his son, Norman, and continued farming until retiring around 1980, Pete was the Cando Township supervisor for many years. He was a member of the Cando Church of the Brethren, now known as Christian Fellowship Church. In May of 1981, Pete and Joyce moved into Cando, ND, and wore out many pairs of tennis shoes as he walked around town. They enjoyed many winters in Chandler, Arizona beginning in January, 1977. During that time, he spent many hours cracking and shelling pecans and making wood items. In April, 2017, they moved into Prairie View Estates congregate housing until December 31, 2019 when Pete moved into the nursing home in Cando, and Joyce went into the St. Francis Basic Care on January 1, 2020. Pete is survived by his wife, Joyce, of 75 years, children, Karen (Monte) Anderson of Perham, MN, Norman Bjornstad of Maricopa, Arizona, Bobby (Nancy) of Carrington, ND; Sheila (Ron) Hartl of Dickinson, ND, Laona (Garth) Eggl, of Cando, ND, Royce (Charlene) Bjornstad of Crocker, MO, and daughter-in-law, Mary Lue Bjornstad of Arkansas, 31 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, brother-in-law Ray Reid and sister-in-law Dorothy Bjornstad. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Carl Dwayne; great-great granddaughter Avalynn Rae Lunden, brothers, Harold, Kenneth, Bjorn, and Sigurd (Buddy), sisters, Lillian, Margaret and Ruby.
