Marvin J. Onstad, age 82 of Park River, ND, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the First Care Health Center of Park River. Marvin James Onstad was born July 20, 1937 in Walhalla, ND, the son of the late Louis and Ethel (McMurray) Onstad. He graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River in 1955 and then attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks. Marvin started working as an Accountant for Cenex in Park River in 1959, where he was employed for 43 years, retiring in 2002. In 1960, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and was stationed in Fort Ord, California, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Fort Riley, Kansas. Marvin was united in marriage to Mavis Frovarp on July 22, 1962 in Park River, ND. The couple made their home in Park River. He was a member of the Victory Free Lutheran Church, Park River. He has served as Treasurer and Trustee for many years. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed doing Sudoku, crossword puzzles, playing computer games and watching sports on TV, especially the Twins and Vikings. He enjoyed grain farming and raising cattle for many years with his brother in the evenings after work and on Saturdays. Marvin is survived by his wife, Mavis Onstad, Park River, ND; sons: Keith (Lanie) Onstad, Denver, CO; Kevin (Tonya) Onstad, Bemidji, MN; daughter, Renae (Michael) Midkiff, Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren: Jonathan, Tori, Stella and Piper; step-granddaughter, Pauline Guertin; three step-great grandchildren: Jordan, Aleecia and Romeo; brother, Raymond (Darlene) Onstad, Park River, ND; sisters-in-law: Bernice Onstad, Bothell, WA; Delaine (Paul) Peoples, Park River, ND. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald, mother and father in law: Palmer and Tilda (Lien) Frovarp, sisters-in-law: Deloris Frovarp and Janice Martens and brother-in-law, Jake Martens. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 2:30 P.M. at the Victory Free Lutheran Church, Park River, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River, ND. Military Rites will be provided by the Park River Legion Post and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
