Marlene M. Johnson, 88, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier. Funeral service will be held Monday, January 6, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Marlene M. Byron was born February 23, 1931, near Hallson, ND, to Sigurdur and Helga (Hannesson) Byron. She grew up and attended school in the Hallson area and attended high school in Mountain, ND. On December 12, 1947, Marlene married Roseman “Emil” Johnson at Langdon, ND. After their marriage they lived in the Mountain area until 1958, when they moved to Cavalier, ND. In April of 2019, Marlene moved into Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier. Some of the things she enjoyed were crocheting, knitting, playing pinochle, and going to casinos. She is survived by her daughters: Betty (Rodger) Hanson, Antler, ND and Linda (Robert) Schlittenhard, Cavalier, ND; Amma to: Stephanie (Daniel) Schwartz, Heather Marquardt, Sara (Brad) Tix, Philip Hanson; Lang Amma to: Brittany Schwartz, Michael Krueger, Haley Marquardt, Elaina, Aaron, and Kayla Tix; step-grandchildren: John (Stacy) Schlittenhard and Becky (Tony) Thompson; step-great grandchildren: John, Bryan, David, and Caleb Schlittenhard, and Padyn Thompson. She is also survived by two siblings: Maria Simundson and Oscar (Shirley) Byron; brother-in-law, Jerry Johnson and sister-n-law, Cathy Byron. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil; siblings: Ben Byron, Alfred Byron, Louis Byron, Sam Byron, Kristine Hannesson, Ella Moore, Steinun Berg, Gunna Johnson, and Helga Halldorson.
