Luke J. Suda, age 87 of Park River, ND passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center. Luke J. Suda was born August 13, 1932 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Wences and Gaddie (Spale) Suda. He attended rural school near Veseleyville, ND. Following his education he farmed with his father until being drafted into the United States Army in October, 1953. He was stationed in Japan for 18 months. Upon his discharge in August of 1955 he returned home and started farming. Luke was united in marriage to Geraldine Gerszewski on June 20, 1956 in Ardoch, ND. The couple lived and farmed north of Veseleyville. He later started a haying service with his brother Rudy called Suda Brothers Haying. In the mid-1970’s Luke started buying and selling used machinery and later scrap metal. In 2004 the couple moved to Grafton and Luke started working on appliances, mainly clothes dryers. He also worked at the bottle shop part-time. In February of 2014 the couple moved to the Park River Good Samaritan Center. Geraldine passed away on October 14, 2015. Luke was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Veseleyville, ND. He was a member of the POLKA Club and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Luke loved to visit and would talk with anyone about anything. He is survived by his children: Kevin (Lori) Suda, Mandan, ND; Paulette Weisz, Mora, MN; grandchildren: Anthony (Cora) Suda, Allison (Michael) Malkowski, Kyle (JoAnn) Tingum, Karli Weisz, six great grandchildren and his siblings: Bridget Votava, Grand Forks, ND: Irene (John) Janda, Veseleyville, ND; Edith Korynta, Fargo, ND; Sylvester (Rullie) Suda, Fish Kill, NY and Rudy (Kathy) Suda, Borup, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Lynette, brothers-in-law: Norbert Korynta and Ermin Votava. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 13, 2020 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Veseleyville, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 PM with a Rosary service at 5:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery of Veseleyville.
