Leona L. Czapiewski, 94, Grand Forks, ND passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023, in 4000 Valley Square, Woodside Village in Grand Forks. Leona Lucille Dauksavage was born September 26, 1928, to Alexander and Rose (Knapkiewicz) Dauksavage in Pulaski Township, Walsh County, ND. She was united in marriage to Florian F. Czapiewski on November 6, 1950, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Warsaw, ND. They lived in Grand Forks. Leona was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered for sharing her God-given gift of hospitality by welcoming family and friends to her home and table. She found much pleasure in taking a genuine interest in everyone she knew. She was a volunteer, a servant leader, and selflessly gave with a humble heart. When her children were young, she was involved with youth groups and school organizations. She always found time to dedicate to serving others. She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s and loved the parish community. Throughout the years she was a CCD coordinator and teacher. Additionally, she was always active in the Altar Society and served on the wedding committee preparing receptions for many years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Marquette #677 and was a Third Order Secular Franciscan. Those who volunteered with her cherished her warm personality and heart for serving. She was renowned for her cooking and baking skills. Friends and family knew when they walked in the door that Leona had something delicious cooking in the oven. When she wasn’t in the kitchen, she could be found crocheting or sewing on her rocking chair in the living room, happy to share stories about her life on the farm. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, taking pride in how big her tomatoes were each year or how her tulips and peonies filled up her flower beds with color. She was a woman of great faith, courage, and compassion. Leona is survived by a son, Robert Czapiewski; daughters, Suzanne (Joel) Flom and Karen (Kevin) Paschke; six grandchildren, Christopher (Missy), Matthew and Patrick Flom and Logan, Cody and Lauren Paschke; two great grandchildren; a brother, Eugene Dauksavage and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Rev. Jacob Czapiewski, her parents, her sister Rose Marie Schumacher, and her brother Ernest Dauksavage. Leona’s family requests that donations be given to the charity of your choice. Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation: One hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Thursday, with a 9:30 a.m. rosary service led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Marquette #677. Burial: In the spring, at Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
