******UPDATE******* Kenneth A. Olson, age 91, passed away February 17, 2023 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. He was born June 16, 1931 in Concrete, ND to Carl and Emily (McKay) Olson. He attended grade school in the Concrete Country School, high school in Cavalier, ND, and transferred to the Park River Ag School his junior year. He played football and was a member of the FFA. He received the State Dairy Farmer Award and was on the Stock Judging Team. His motto his senior year was, "I'm a man of few words." He worked on the family farm until he joined the Army. He was on active duty in Okinawa from February 1953 to January 1955 as a cook then returned to the family farm. In May of 1967, he went to work for John Deere in Cavalier as a mechanic and took a part-time job for Pinkerton's as a security guard at the Par Site near Concrete. In 1972 he started working at the Par Site Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief. He later returned to the John Deere shop full time and was made shop foreman. He retired in 2002 but would still go in occasionally to help. Ken loved to visit, stopping at the John Deere shop every Wednesday as well as gathering with family for lunch. He enjoyed working in his yard, fixing equipment, watching nature, and walking. Family was important to him. He lived at home independently until last fall when his health no longer allowed it. He then moved to Borg Home in Mountain, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Emily Olson and his brother Ernest. He is survived by his brother Howard (Anna Lee) of Concrete and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held on June 16, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at United Lutheran Church in Cavalier, ND, with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery.
