George H Nelson

George H. Nelson, age 80 of Grafton, ND passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.
George H. Nelson was born March 23, 1939 in Auburn, ND the son of the late George and Ruth (Landowski) Nelson. He attended rural school near Auburn and in Grafton, ND. Following his education he farmed with his father for Alvin Lykken. George enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Minneapolis, MN working as an airplane mechanic. Upon his discharge he returned home and started farming. George was united in marriage to Charla Matcha on December 30, 1988 in Grafton. The couple made their home near Grafton. George retired from farming in 1994 and then worked for Lee Lykken.
He was a member of the Grafton American Legion, AMVETS, life member of the Walsh County Gun Club and Grafton Eagles. George loved to be on the farm and tinkering in his shop. He could fix or build anything he set his mind to. He loved to fish and spend time with his children.
George is survived by his wife, Charla, Grafton, ND; his children: Ventzi Nelson, Grafton, ND; Asya Nelson, Fargo, ND; his sisters: Charlotte Johnson, Adams, ND and Lori (Kevin) Suda, Mandan, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Larissa; sisters: Carol and Linda and brother Paul.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 22, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion and the US Navy Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
