Evelyn Peterson

Evelyn Peterson, age 91 of Grafton, North Dakota passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Evelyn Karlstad was born on October 9, 1931, in Falun Township, Roseau County, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Nem and Inga (Thorstenson) Karlstad.  Along with her 12 siblings, she was raised on the Karlstad farm and attended District 112 School in Falun Township.  Evelyn was united in marriage to Walter Lyle Peterson on November 8, 1952 in Roseau, Minnesota.  Following Walter’s “Buddy’s” discharge from the Army, the couple moved to Grafton, which was their lifelong home.  She worked at Borden’s in Grafton, in the potatoes, and cared for many children at her home daycare.  After Walter passed away in 1988, she continued to live in their home until 2016, when health conditions required her to move to Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton.
She loved spending time with family and friends and always had coffee for anyone who would visit.  She enjoyed caring for pets and her birds, collecting dolls and stuffed animals.  She also enjoyed traveling with her daughter, Kathy, the Heritage Doll Club and her nieces.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Kevin (Nada) Peterson, Oak Grove, MN; son-in-law, Jason Vasichek, Manvel, ND; grandchildren:  Lindsey Peterson, Tucker Vasichek and Logan Peterson; brother-in-law, Kenny (Karen) Peterson, Ellsworth, WI; sister-in-law, Janet (Peterson) Dailey, Grand Forks, ND.  Along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, daughter Kathy, brothers: Alfred, Duane, Clarence, Clifford, Eddie, Marvin, Norman and Raymond (Mava) Karlstad, sisters: Agnes (Clifford) Williamson, Clara (Raymond) Thompson, Ida (George) Olson, Mamie (Herman) Johnson and brother-in-law Duane Peterson.
She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Grafton City Cemetery in the spring.
