Elmer F. Altendorf, age 94 of Minto, North Dakota passed away Monday, June 21, 2021 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton. Elmer F. Altendorf was born October 4, 1926 in Grafton, North Dakota, the son of the late Francis and Laura (Poole) Altendorf. He attended St. Aloysius Academy in Oakwood, ND. Elmer was united in marriage to Doris Collette in, July 1946. The couple made their home in Acton Township where he continued to farm with his family and also traveled the custom harvesting trail and trucking. In 1963, he was united in marriage to Sophie Valgren and they lived 2 miles North of Warsaw. Sophie passed away on October 24, 2005. Elmer remarried Doris M Collette in March 2008. Elmer moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in March, 2020 and continued to reside there until he was admitted to Unity Hospital in Grafton, ND. He was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto, ND and participated in the start up of the Divine Mercy Adoration. He also was on the Board of Directors of the International Potato Co-Op. Elmer’s life passion was farming and family. He loved teasing and being around his Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Elmer loved talking and visiting with everyone. His hobby when he semi-retired was going to the Grafton Armory and playing cards with the boys. Elmer is survived by his wife Doris and his children: Marvin (Sherrie) Altendorf, Minto, ND; Janice Altendorf, Minto, ND; Karen (Bruce) Johnson, Grand Forks, ND; daughter-in-law, Charleen Altendorf, Minto, ND, step-son, Bill Valgren, Grand Forks, ND; 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Laura Altendorf, wife Sophie Altendorf, son Martin Altendorf and brothers: Leo Altendorf and Ray Altendorf. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Oakwood, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, Unity Hospital Foundation or the Minto Quick Response.
