Dorothy L. Kalka

Dorothy L. Kalka, 86, formerly of Pembina, ND passed away Friday, December 31, 2021 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church in Pembina, ND. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the time of services on Friday.
Dorothy was born August 27, 1935 at Pembina, ND to Amos and Nancy (Sandberg) Jerome. She grew up in Pembina and graduated from Pembina High School.
On October 19, 1955, she married Walter “Laddie” Kalka in Pembina, ND. Dorothy worked as a telephone operator and later at Motor Coach Industries; she then operated a daycare in Pembina. Things she enjoyed were crafts, flowers, and working on family genealogy. In 2010, she moved to Grand Forks, ND.
She is survived by her children: Jon Kalka, Pembina, ND, Mary (Craig) Knutson, Hudson, WI, Diane (Joel) Muir, Hallock, MN, Jerry (Lisa) Kalka, Cottage Grove, MN, son-in-law, Peyton Stanlake, Parkers Prairie, MN; grandchildren: Carl and Greta Knutson, Mariah Tvrdik (Scott Walker), Christina Tvrdik (Jr. Diehl), Nicholas Tvrdik (Vicky Townsend), Madison Muir, Kassidy and Colton Kalka, great-grandchildren: Sylvie, Wesley, and Gavin, step-grandchildren: Chelsey (Bryan) Burt, Chase Stanlake, Alexis Stanlake (Wyatt Grondahl). Also surviving are her step-great grandchildren, Harper, Rowan and Vienna, sister, Doris (Don) Swanson, and supportive friend, Jan Tweeten.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Walter “Laddie”, daughter, Jan Stanlake, and great-grandson, Andrew Tvrdik-Walker, brothers: Leonard, Lavern, and Merle “Hona” Jerome, and sisters: Eleanor Tucker and Ruth Humble.
