Dale Eugene Gemmill, age 96 of Edinburg, ND passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Care Center of Park River. Dale was born October 3, 1923 in Edinburg, ND, the son of the late Herbert W. and Opal I. (Jensen) Gemmill. He married Leona Mae Odegard on March 26, 1951 in Hoople, ND. Dale and Leona established their household in rural Edinburg, ND where they resided until they sold their farmstead in 2005 and moved into Edinburg. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage until Leona passed on September 30, 2008. Dale continued to reside in Edinburg until 2018 when he moved into an independent living apartment at the Good Samaritan Center in Park River, ND. He moved into the Good Samaritan nursing home in October, 2019. Dale farmed with his brother Gene until he retired in 1988. He was active on many boards including the Edinburg Farmers Elevator, the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department, the Good Samaritan Center, Odalen Lutheran Church, and Grace Free Lutheran Church. He volunteered for many years at the Park River Bible Camp and the Good Samaritan Center. Dale is survived by his sons: Larry (Nancy) Gemmill, Cohasset, MN; Randy (Susan) Gemmill, Edinburg, ND; Jeff (Debbie) Gemmill, Grand Rapids, MN; his daughter: Lynae (Mike) Nielsen, Mahtomedi, MN; five grandchildren: Nicole (Gemmill) Jehoich, Nathan Gemmill, Alicia (Gemmill) Gilbert, Eric Gemmill, and Kelly Gemmill; nine great grandchildren, and his only remaining sibling, Helen (Harold) Sundvor. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, his parents, brothers: Herbert Jr., Floyd, Gene, and Gordon; sisters: Suzanne and Rebecca (Gemmill) Ruud and grandson: Jay Dale Gemmill. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 28, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Grace Free Lutheran Church of Edinburg. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Edinburg. Friends may also call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Odalen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Edinburg. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Odalen Cemetery Fund would be appreciated.
