Bernice Svercl, age 86, of Fordville, ND, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020 in the Good Samaritan Society-Park River, ND. Bernice was born April 21, 1934, the daughter of Anton and Agnes (Trenda) Machovsky, near Pisek, ND. She grew up in Vernon Township, Walsh County, ND. While growing up she worked hard helping out her father on the farm. She married Donald Svercl on September 30, 1957 in Grafton, ND. They continued to live in the area and settled down on the family farm near Fordville. In 1970, they moved into Fordville where Bernice started working as a cook for the Fordville Public School. She retired in 1995 and continued to live in Fordville. In September of 2013, she moved into the Good Samaritan Center in Park River. Surviving members of her family include her sons: David, Syracuse, NY and Douglas (Mona), Maple Grove, MN; three grandchildren: Adam (Laura), Erin, and Kara Svercl; three great-grandchildren: Addison, Harrison and Coleson. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald on March 5, 1998, her parents, sisters; LeAnn (Ray) Dahlen and Shirley (Jim) Mulbrecht; brothers-in-law: Gordon Svercl, Ervin Svercl, Leo Kirchoffner; sister-in-law: Grace Kirchoffner and niece: Shelly Dahlen. GRAVESIDE SERVICES will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the W.F.L.A. Lodge-Kosobud Cemetery of rural Lankin, ND, with Larry Omdahl officiating. From Lankin, on Walsh County Road 15, drive 8 miles west, then turn south on Walsh County 16 and go 3 miles to the cemetery.
