Alfred G. Hanson, age 95 of Park River, ND and formerly of Mountain, ND passed away on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Center of Park River. Alfred G. Hanson was born June 16, 1926 to John and Aurora (Olgeirson) Hanson in Thingvalla Township, North Dakota. Alfred attended school until the 8th grade, when he began farming with his family. He also worked in HVAC repair during his younger years. On May 16, 1969, Alfred married Hope Irene (Indridason) Byron and instantly became part of a large family that loved him very much. They made their home on the family farm and owned the Mountain Cash Store. Alfred continued to farm and began working at the PAR site in Cavalier, ND, where he was known as “a jack of all trades”. He retired from the PAR site after 30 years. His love of farming and woodworking never stopped. He continued to farm and helped out his son Jon “Mayo” with his cattle, into his late 80’s. He spent countless hours and patience working the most intricate pieces of woodcraft. Alfred was a lifelong member of Vikur Lutheran Church, served on the board of directors for the Mountain Cemetery and Borg Pioneer Memorial Home. He was also a 34 year member of the Tongue River Lodge #22 of Cavalier, ND. Alfred is survived by his children: Candice (Bob) Strand, Hazen, ND; Pandora Hemsher, Rapid City, SD; Nadine (Dale) Carr, Wheatland, WY; Tyrone Byron, Mountain, ND; Dwight (Elaine) Byron, Park River, ND; and Fred (Juanita) Byron, Anchorage, AK; 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; and 8 great, great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also carry on his legacy. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Jon “Mayo” Byron, and grandchildren: Jolene Goodro, John Robert Strand, and Lara Le Strand; brother Percy, and infant twin brother. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Vikur Lutheran Church in Mountain. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Mountain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Vikur Lutheran Church or Mountain Cemetery.
