William (Bill) Louis Grandy, Jr., age 70 died of natural causes, on July 18, 2020, after a long fight against ALS (Lou Gerhig's Disease). He was born on March 13, 1950, in Grafton, ND, the son of William (Bill) Grandy and Mary Daniels Grandy. Bill graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1968. He attended the University of North Dakota for one year before following in his father's footsteps and running the family farm. Bill married Diane Redmann at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. Thomas, ND. They celebrated 49 years of marriage on July 3, 2020. Bill spent many years serving the community children on the St. Thomas School Board as a member and President, and also on the Pembina County Special Ed Board. Bill enjoyed working alongside his fellow sugar beet farmers, promoting and improving the community while serving on the American Crystal Sugar Coop Board. One of Bills favorite past times was to talk and tell stories. He loved to be around people and had an incredible memory for details, dates, and names. Traveling with his family, water skiing, and sitting around the campfire exchanging stories were some of his favorite hobbies. Bill and Diane spent their summers enjoying the lake and visiting with friends and family in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was fond of spending his winters with friends and family in Yuma, Arizona and traveling to spend the day in Mexico. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) Grandy and Mary Daniels Grandy. Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Diane, daughters, Margo (Troy) Spilde, Springfield, Missouri, Sarah Hansson, Ramsey, New Jersey; six grandchildren Liam Hansson (18), Kirsten Spilde (16), Mekenzie Hansson (15), Scarlett Hansson (13), Bret Spilde (13), Alexa Spilde (11). He is also survived by his sister Beth (Bill) Landrigan and his niece Katie (Jeff) Ragland, and nephew Charlie (Beth) Landrigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Tollefson Funeral Home, 154 W 12th Street, Grafton, ND. Services will be on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 10:00 am at the St. Thomas High School Gymnasium. In Memoriam donations may be made to support the ALS Association North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota Chapter in honor of Bill Grandy.
