Veronica (Vron) Rose Wilson (Gerou), 88, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Gracewood Senior Living in Lino Lakes, Minnesota near her family. Vron was born on May 12, 1934 to Philip and Lucille (Mindak) Gerou in Drayton, North Dakota. She was the fourth born of eight children. She graduated from Drayton High School. Following graduation, she worked in Drayton at Carvel Drug Store as well as the Drayton State Bank. Vron was united in marriage to Albert Wilson on March 2, 1957 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Minneapolis. She worked for Prudential Insurance while they lived in Minneapolis. They returned to North Dakota and the couple farmed near Drayton for many years. Vron was initially a reluctant farmer, having grown up in the “city.” But she quickly took on the role of helping to run the farm. She also worked for American Crystal Sugar Company in Drayton. Vron was actively involved in St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Drayton where she served on the Altar Society and was a catechism teacher in the faith formation program. She was also very involved in the Farmer’s Union where she was a teacher in the youth education program and she served as a summer camp counselor at Heart Butte Camp. She was a member of the Drayton Golf Club and the Drayton Curling Club and had been active in bowling as well as snowmobiling with friends. Vron and Al enjoyed camping, starting with tenting, moving to a pop-up camper and eventually a trailer home on the Rainy River at the Lake of the Woods near Baudette, Minnesota. Eventually they moved to a log cabin home and called the Lake of the Woods their summer home after retirement. During the winter months they spent their time in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, where they continued to enjoy golfing and fishing as well as spending time on South Padre Island. She and Al loved the outdoors and traveling. Vron enjoyed fishing and had an uncanny ability to catch not only the first fish, but often the biggest. This was both puzzling and annoying for her fishing partners. They often traveled with friends or family, and this included places across the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as outside the U.S. to the Canadian Rockies, Mexico, Panama, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. Vron loved shopping for the adventure and chase of finding a good deal. It was a challenge to pass any sale sign without stopping. Shopping was truly another “sport” she enjoyed. She was a proud grandmother who loved spending time with her granddaughters Meghan and Lindsay, whether it was going out for coffee or a bite to eat, shopping or watching them play soccer. Vron is survived by her son Boyd and daughter-in-law Jill (Keller) Wilson, Lino Lakes, MN; granddaughters Meghan and Lindsay Wilson; sisters Mary Lou Brosseau, Thief River Falls, MN and Cathy Gaynor, Black River Falls. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Al Wilson, infant daughter Leslie Claire Wilson, parents Philip and Lucille Gerou; in-laws Albert and Alma Wilson; brothers Eugene, Aelred, Cyril and Michael and sister Sister Edwardine (Eulalie) Gerou. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Edwards Catholic Church in Drayton with visitation one hour prior.
