Vernice E. DeMars, 88, of Bathgate, ND passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Brigid of Ireland Catholic Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 20th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary and wake service at the church. Burial will be held in the St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Bathgate, ND. Vernice E. Kukuk was born March 5, 1931 at Cavalier, ND to George and Pearl (Routley) Kukuk. She grew up in Cavalier and graduated from Cavalier High School. Vernice worked at the Cavalier Dry Cleaners after high school. On March 29, 1951, she married Everett R. DeMars in Cavalier. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Bathgate area. Vernice was active in the Northeastern North Dakota Heritage Association and the Pioneer Daughters. She was also a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Auxiliaries. She is survived by her children: Bonnie (Danny) DeMars Danielson, Bathgate, ND, Marie (Bill) Carlin, Drayton, ND, Sherry (Jim) McDonald, Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: Rachael (Paul) Snyder; Ricky (Karin) Carlin, Maria (James) Soeby, Amanda Carlin; Tiffany (Vance) Bennett, Jayme (John) Metzger; foster granddaughter, Cierra Hangsleben; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Ione Whalen; several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Everett; daughter, Cindy; brothers, Ken and Orville Kukuk.
