![]() Maurice L. Zikmund, age 76 of Cando and formerly of Pisek, ND passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at the Towner County Living Center of Cando. Maurice L. Zikmund was born on July 24, 1943 on the family farm in Prairie Centre Township, Walsh County, the son of the late Joseph A. and Lucy (Kouba) Zikmund. He attended country school and later Pisek High School. Following his education, he worked for several area farmers before starting farming in 1969. He was united in marriage to Deborah McCambridge Lietz on February 18, 1982 in Conway, ND. The couple made their home near Pisek and continued to farm until retiring in 1992. Following his retirement, he worked for Ayr Com installing fiber optic cables. The couple moved to Cando in 2010 and he moved into the nursing home in October of 2014. He was a member of the St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Veseleyville, the Knights of Columbus, the Park River Jaycee’s, several square dancing groups, and the NE North Dakota Pioneer Machinery Association. He enjoyed tinkering around the farm, working with his livestock and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Deborah, Cando, ND; children: Michael (Jamie Thompson) Lietz, Grafton, ND, Tom Lietz, Midland, TX, Tammy Yarber, Fargo, ND, Lori (Jeremiah) Moen, Harwood, ND, Jason Zikmund, Grand Forks, ND, Kayla (Steve Martz) Zikmund, Fargo, ND, Daniel (Lyndsay Lopez) Zikmund, Park River, ND; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; siblings: Marie Greicar, Lucy (Kevin) Fruhwirth, Vicky (Russell) Denault, sister-in-law Lorraine Zikmund as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Maurice Jr., brother Joseph Zikmund, brothers-in-law Ben Greicar and Dennis Konze, and nephew Clair Greicar. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 23, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Veseleyville, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-5 P.M. with a prayer service at 5:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
