Mary Jean Altendorf, age 85 of Minto, ND passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton surrounded by family. Mary Jean Korczak was born November 5, 1933, at the Deaconess Hospital of Grafton, North Dakota, the daughter of the late Anton and Victoria (Marynik) Korczak. She attended school near Warsaw and received her sacraments at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Mary Jean was united in marriage to Leo Altendorf on November 6, 1951at St. Stanislaus in Warsaw, North Dakota. The couple made their home and farmed east of Grafton. Later they moved to Trail, Minnesota where Mary Jean owned and operated Mary’s Café until 1982. She continued to work at Trail General Store and did a lot of volunteer work until her retirement. After Leo’s death in 1992, she continued to live in Trail and be active in VFW Auxiliary, Trail Community Club, St. Francis Xavier Church, Oklee, MN and the Quilters Club. She loved to play bingo and trips to the casino with her friends. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, painting, yard work, embroidery, cooking, baking, knitting and playing cards. In April of 2018, because of health reasons, Mary Jean moved back to Minto, ND to be close to family and friends. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto, ND. Mary Jean is survived by her sister, Alice Stancyk, Thief River Falls, MN; brothers: Henry (Janice) Korczak, Grand Forks, ND; Greg (Genevieve) Korczak, Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law: Rose Altendorf, Grand Forks, ND and brother-in-law: Elmer (Doris) Altendorf, Minto, ND. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; brother, Sylvester Korczak; sister, Helen Osowski; brother-in-law, Ray Altendorf and nephews: Martin Altendorf and Dennis Altendorf. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto. Visitation will be on Wednesday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Oakwood, ND. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unity Hospital Foundation, 164 West 13th Street, Grafton, ND 58237.
