Lorraine C. Olson

LORRAINE C. (MATTSON) OLSON, 90, of Drayton, ND passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND surrounded by her loving family.
Lorraine was born June 3, 1928 in Grafton, ND to Torbiesand Sophie (Arnesen) Mattson. She was raised on the family farm west of Drayton, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at the Grafton Lutheran Church. Lorraine attended the Mattson Country School and also attended high school in Grafton and Grand Forks, ND.

Having been raised on the farm, Lorraine never lost her love for the harvest season. Through the years she could be found driving beet and potato trucks for many farmers in the area. She also was employed at American Crystal for many years.

Lorraine loved the life that she and her husband Harris shared. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time and sharing her many talents with family. It was rare to leave her house without at least a few jars of pickles and jellies that she and Harris canned every fall. Each Christmas her grandchildren looked forward to her homemade goodies and lefse. Family gatherings were centered around her delicious meals, which most often included mashed potatoes and her legendary gravy. Lorraine loved crocheting afghans for her family. She was a wonderful piano player. On birthdays, family looked forward to her call when she played the piano and sang "Happy Birthday" over the phone. She also looked forward to singing and playing music with her siblings. Lorraine and Harris loved their summer place at Rocky Point. They especially enjoyed fishing and socializing there with friends. Lorraine was a great sports fan and loved cheering loudly for her favorite teams - the Minnesota Twins and Sioux Hockey. Lorraine's enthusiasm for life and her many talents will be missed by all who knew her.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Harris. Grandchildren-Kim (Michael) Magathan, Kara (Jonathan) Loden, Allison (Dan) Lenmark, Angela (Kyle) Vershey, Kelly (Thomas) Beasley, Kristen (Craig) Meng, Alissa (Barnaby) Allen, Justin (Sara) Tveit, Whitney (Grant) Rasmussen, Melissa Blanchard (Kevin Hopke), Cory Blanchard (Melissa Agnew), Dylan Woinarowicz, Claire Olson Great grandchildren-Kate and Kiersten Magathan, Sophia and Jackson Loden, Jack and Emma Lenmark, Samuel and Bennett Vershey, Caleb, Aidan, Jacob, and Mattson Beasley, Luke, Pete, and John Meng, Millicent and George Allen, Tanner Tveit, Anders, Nels and Finn Rasmussen. Siblings - Ted Mattson and James Mattson.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Bob Thompson, daughter Becky Thompson, great granddaughter Sophia Lenmark, and siblings Vernon Mattson, Edith Coulthart, Bud Mattson, Joyce Schaefer, Delores Green, and Danny Mattson.
