![]() Josephine R. Deitz, age 94 of Grand Forks and formerly Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Valley Elder Care of Grand Forks. Josephine R. Elter was born May 7, 1930 in Selfridge, ND to the late Conrad and Catherine (Bohl) Elter. She was raised and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Bismarck, ND. Josephine married Ed Deitz on April 19, 1951 in Bismarck. The couple settled in Grafton. Jo was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. She was involved in community events and activities; she enjoyed volunteering her gifts and talents. She was an artist and lovely painter. Jo was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain in her home for family and friends. She played Bridge regularly and delighted in attending social events. Josephine and Ed loved to travel and spent 18 winters in Sun City West, Arizona. Josephine was survived by her children: Patty (Michael) Leighton, Grafton, ND, Mike (Arlene) Deitz, Fort Collins, CO, Mari Jo Deitz, Grand Forks, ND, James (Ann Marie) Deitz, Turlock, CA, Elizabeth Armstrong, Jacksonville, FL, Julie Tilka, Minneapolis, MN, Teresa (Keith) Cresap, The Villages, FL; 16 grandchildren; 18.5 great grandchildren; and sisters: Rose Schmidt, Rita Schmidt, and Teresa Tokash. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Richard, grandson Jonathan, and siblings: Betty, Helen, and Herb. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, May 12, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, North Dakota. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, North Dakota.
