![]() Joseph J. Zikmund, 79, passed into eternal life Tuesday, August 20th at the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton, ND, surrounded by his family. Joseph was born November 22, 1939 at home in Prairie Centre Township, Walsh County to Joseph A. and Lucy (Kouba) Zikmund. Joe attended area schools, graduating from Pisek High School in 1957. He then joined the Army in 1958, and after serving for one year, went home to farm. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Ann Denault on June 28th, 1962. During their 57 years of marriage, they welcomed 9 children, 44 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Joe actively served his community on many boards including: St. Mark’s Catholic Church, FHA, Walsh Water, Walsh County Mutual, Assessor of Eden Township, Deanery IV of the Fargo Diocese, and St. Mark’s Cemetery. Joe was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Pisek and the Pisek American Legion Post #208. Joe enjoyed time with his family and friends, attending sporting events, engaging in meaningful conversation, refurbishing gray Ford tractors and his 1949 pickup. He is survived by his wife Lorraine, children Keith (Helen), Minto, Lisa (Kevin) Durkin, Inkster, Kevin (Julie), Park River, Timothy (Jacqi), Pisek, Joseph (Niki) Aberdeen, SD, Kimberly (Bob) Noel, Moorhead, MN, Roxanne (Brian) Madson, Fargo, Jennifer (Michael) Splonskowski, Glyndon, MN, Becky (Brian) Streitz, Fargo, his siblings, Marie Greicar, Maurice (Deb) Zikmund, Lucy (Kevin) Fruhwirth, Vicky (Russell) Denault, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Maria Madson, brothers-in-law Ben Greicar, Dennis Konze, and nephews Clair Greicar, Gary Pecka, Stuart Swartz. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 2:30 P.M. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Pisek. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Pisek American Legion Post #208 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Interment will be at the St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery of Conway.
