John H. Riske, age 77 of Forest River, ND, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. John Hilary Riske was born September 12, 1943 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Hilary and Leona (Korynta) Riske. He graduated from Forest River High School in 1961 and the University of North Dakota in 1965 with a degree in Accounting. He returned to the family farm to farm and raise cattle with his father and brother, Ronnie. John was united in marriage to JoAnn Bellinger on August 21, 1970 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ardoch, ND. The couple made their home near Forest River. He retired from farming in 1999 and in 2000 began working at Marvin’s for eleven years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ardoch, ND and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto, ND, serving on parish council for both churches. He was a member of the St. John’s Men’s Club, Park River Knights of Columbus, the Forest River Pistol and Rifle Club, the Forest River Volunteer Fire Department and served on the board for the Forest River Elevator. John loved his family and enjoyed playing cards. John is survived by his wife, JoAnn Riske, Forest River, ND; children: Patrick (Diane) Riske, Forest River, ND; Kathryn Duben, Anderson, South Carolina; grandchildren: Anna and Andrew Riske; siblings: Patty (David) Wilson, East Grand Forks, MN; Mary Ann Bayne, Belpre, OH; Donnie (Bonnie) Riske, Forest River, ND; Kathy (Rodger) Common, Mesa, AZ; Hilary “Butch” (Julie) Riske, Grand Forks, ND; Christine (Vernon) Langowski, Grand Forks, ND; step-father-in-law, Joe Goodman, San Antonio, TX; siblings-in-law: Tom Bellinger, Lansford, ND; Dick (Becky) Bellinger, Pueblo, CO; Lola Hansmann, San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother, Ronnie Riske, brother-in-law and best friend for always, Lawrence Bayne, mother-in-law, Beverly Goodman and father-in-law Jack Bellinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 27, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Covid-19 restrictions of up to 50 people will be followed and face masks are required. Interment will be at the Forest River Cemetery, Forest River, ND.
