Janice C. Ledbury

Janice C. Ledbury, age 83 of Grafton, ND passed away on Friday, June 21, 2019 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, ND.


Janice Carol Ledbury was born in Kelso, North Dakota on June 13, 1936 to Burnon Gisvold and Ruth (Johnson) Gisvold. She is survived by her brother Jack Gisvold of Renton, WA and sister, Beverly Temple of San Diego, CA. Her children include Diane Mercil of Menomonie, WI, Gerald Ledbury of Des Moines, IA and Barbara Ledbury of Mooresville, NC. Her grandchildren include Jennifer Ledbury (Rob Conn) of Des Moines, IA, Andrew Mercil of Menomonie, WI and Peter Mercil of Augusta, GA. Also surviving is Dean Demester of Grafton, ND her partner and companion. Her nieces and nephews on the West Coast were very special to her along with Shanna Ruth (Gisvold) Trosen of Grand Forks who visited her often. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Elwood and Dean.
Janice was a long-time resident of Grafton, ND where she was a business owner of Stan’s Café, and worked at the Development and VA Centers in Grafton. She has been an active member of Grafton Lutheran Church and volunteered in many community organizations and activities. She brought fun and creativity to everything she did.
Janice was particularly interested in history, and conducted research on family origins and her Norwegian heritage. She fulfilled a life dream by making a thrilling trip to Norway in 2000 to attend an immigration festival in Orkdahl and meet relatives in Trondheim.
Her legacy is a loving family that includes writers, artists, and musicians who frequently hum and sing advertisements.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
