Duane Francis Larson, age 80 of Breckenridge, MN passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by family. Duane F. Larson was born January 07, 1944 in St. Thomas, ND the son of the late Francis and Helen (Boulduc) Larson. He grew up and attended schools in St. Thomas, ND, graduating from St. Thomas High School in 1962 and served in the National Guard. Duane married Karen Richards on December 27, 1969 in Herman, MN. He worked at Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad. Two of his proudest achievements were being able to retire after 50 years with BNSF in 2017 and maintaining his sobriety for 30 years. Duane had many interests: crosswords, writing short stories, watching Jeopardy, fishing, bird hunting, gardening, playing cards, singing, making his famous pot roast and potato feasts, reading, championing political causes that impact seniors, listening to music and most of all, being a proud Grandpa. He leaves behind many people who will always love him for his tenacity (or stubbornness), quick wit and humor, mental agility, and kindness. Being a real, human, and candid person was central to his way of living. He saw himself as a flawed human being, but one committed to the work of becoming a better one. Duane is survived by his eight children: David Larson, St. Cloud, MN; Kristina Roegiers, Anoka, MN; Jennifer Larson, Minnetrista, MN; Elizabeth (Mark) Anderson, Minneapolis, MN; Michael Larson, Minnetonka, MN; Andrea Larson, St. Paul, MN; Timothy Larson, Blaine, MN; Daniel Larson, Coralville, IA; six grandchildren: Michael, Nicholas and Zachary Oberpriller, Brady Roegiers, Emma Vanmeter, Evelyn Anderson; his former spouse, Karen Larson; his siblings: Marlys (Ron) Ludlow, San Carlos, CA; Debra Larson, Sacramento, CA; Richard Larson, Moorhead, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sondra Larson. A visitation will be Friday, October 18, 2024 from 10-10:30 AM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton, ND, with interment to follow at the Calvary Cemetery of St. Thomas, ND.
