Bennie J. Hodny, age 94 of Lankin, ND met his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 2, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society of Park River. Bennie Hodny was born on June 5, 1928, to the late Thomas and Pauline (Maresh) Hodny in Walsh County, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm near Lankin. Bennie attended country school in Perth Township. After graduation, Bennie farmed with his father and brother Jerry, before he was called to serve in the United States Army. He served during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He attended basic training at Fort Riley, KS, and later was deployed to Italy. Bennie was united in marriage to Mary T. (Kotaska) Maresh on September 26, 1987 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church (Bechyne), rural Lankin. Bennie and Mary lived on their farm near Brocket, ND until Mary passed away on April 3, 2006. Bennie loved to play cards with the neighbors, watch shows on TV Land and the Game Show Network, and listen to Polka Joe. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Bosh-Ryba Post 157 of Lankin, and a member of Ladies Slovak, formerly Catholic Workmen. Bennie will be dearly missed by his step-children: Gordon and Mary and their families: Gordon (Robbyn) Maresh, Michigan, ND; Gordon’s daughter, Erika (Rodney) Anderson—children, Blake & Parker; and Gordon’s son, Matthew (Lindsay) Maresh—children, Sy and Rae; Mary (Fred) Eback, Devils Lake, ND, Mary’s daughter, Sharon (Steve) Johanson—children Riley & Kiara; Mary’s daughter, Ellen Eback—son Michael (Ashley) Eback—daughter, Daisy; and Mary’s daughter, Kay (Justen) Barstad—children Myles and Ily; his sister Annie Adamson; his sister-in-law Sandra Hodny; his nephews: Lee (Nicole) Adamson; John Curtis (Lisa) Hodny; Jerry (Mary) Hodny Jr.; Michael (Jacki) Hodny; Scott Brandvold; Ron Brandvold; Ed Brandvold; Larry (Deb) Zacha; his nieces: Marinell (Stuart) Beckman; Wanda (Scott) Mengelkoch; Trish Hodny; Jodi Hodny; Maryetta (Keith) Nelson; Geraldine Lipsh; Paula Johnson; Teresa Malone; Christy (Lee) Ruzicka; Carrie (Bob) Banish; Bonnie Brandvold; Marge (Al) Irwin; Deb (Steve) Flaten; Judy (Rod) Alme; and many great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers Jerry and John; sisters Arlene Zacha and Marcella Brandvold; nieces Lucille, Lori, Charlene, and Diana; nephew Richard. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church (Bechyne) of rural Lankin, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church (Bechyne) Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the Lankin American Legion Post and the ND National Guard Honor Guard.
