Letzring, 65, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024, at his home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier, ND. Bret was born April 20, 1959, in Cavalier, ND, to Richard and Phoebe (Kuehner) Letzring. He graduated high school in Cavalier and went on to earn two bachelor's degrees from the University of North Dakota. He married Melody (Burke) on June 5th, 1981, in Cavalier, ND. Bret worked in carpentry for several years before starting his career managing the Knights of Columbus (Columbian Club) in Grand Forks. Bret truly believed that life is short and meant to be enjoyed. Some of his hobbies included refinishing furniture, playing pool, crossword puzzles, cooking, and trying new foods. He was the ultimate sports fan, enjoying everything from highschool to professional sports, with a love of Twins baseball and Vikings football. What Bret enjoyed above all else was sharing his energy and humor with his friends and family. Bret was quick to share a joke and a cheeky grin. Bret is survived and remembered by his loving wife Melody; his children: James Letzring of Rogers, MN, Michael Letzring of Grand Forks, ND, and Kayla Letzring of Grand Forks, ND; his grandchildren: Adeline Letzring, Alton Letzring, Aiden Letzring, and Weston Letzring; his mother, Phoebe; his brothers: Tracy (Constance) Letzring and Jim (Kim) Letzring; and many nieces and nephews. Bret was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. Lucille Jean Danielson, 91, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND. Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held for one hour before the time of the service. Lucille was born in Walhalla, ND, on June 6, 1933, to Ludger and Lydia Beauchamp. On November 3, 1954, Lucille married Dale Danielson at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla, where they raised their six children: Danny (Bonnie) Danielson, Gayle (Tom) Corbit, Duane Danielson, Gloria (Verdell Voeltz) Danielson, Jodi Danielson, Jolene (Joe Rode) Danielson. Lucille was blessed with nine grandchildren: Jamey (Janelle), Rachel (Casey), Christopher, (Laura), Brady (Raelyn), Tyler, Jaden, Rachael (Paul), Jeromie (Tammy), Cory (Angie), along with 21 great-grandchildren. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; sons: Duane, Mark and John; and brothers: Eugene, Marcel, and Don. Joyce Betts, 89, of Cavalier, ND passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 29th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. memorial service at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Burial will be held in the Cavalier Cemetery. Elizabeth “Joyce” Betts was born August 11, 1935, in Northamptonshire, England to Alfred G. and Elizabeth (Goddard) Betts. She grew up in Northamptonshire and at the age of 11 years, moved with her family to the United States. They settled in the Bathgate area. Joyce graduated as valedictorian from Bathgate High School in 1953. She then attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks, ND. Joyce then worked for the Boy Scouts of America in Grand Forks and then moved to Cavalier, where she worked for Timian Insurance until her retirement. She enjoyed bowling, watching wrestling on television, socializing with friends at Thompson’s Café, and cruising around town. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Tammy Betts of Cavalier. Preceding her in death were her parents. Edith A. Gierszewski, age 100 of Grafton, North Dakota passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the Serenity Assisted Living Center, Dilworth, Minnesota. Edith A. Sevigny was born September 18, 1924 in Oakwood, North Dakota, the daughter of the late Leon and Clara (Dumas) Sevigny. She attended school in Oakwood. Edith was united in marriage to Conrad Gierszewski on September 28, 1943. The couple made their home in Drayton, North Dakota. She was a member of the St. Edward’s Catholic Church of Drayton. She was an active member of the church. She was a member of the Altar Society, sang in the choir, taught religion class and was also a Eucharistic Minister. After her children were grown, she moved to Grafton, North Dakota. She loved life and loved entertaining friends and family and visiting people who lived at the Lutheran Sunset Home. She loved praying the rosary and praying for everyone. She was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church during her years in Grafton. She moved to Dilworth, Minnesota in 2016. She enjoyed participating in all the special events that Serenity Living Center provided. She was an avid lover of playing cards, playing checkers, singing and dancing. Interment will be at the St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery, Drayton, ND Duane Francis Larson, age 80 of Breckenridge, MN passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at his home surrounded by family. Duane F. Larson was born January 07, 1944 in St. Thomas, ND the son of the late Francis and Helen (Boulduc) Larson. He grew up and attended schools in St. Thomas, ND, graduating from St. Thomas High School in 1962 and served in the National Guard. Duane married Karen Richards on December 27, 1969 in Herman, MN. He worked at Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad. Two of his proudest achievements were being able to retire after 50 years with BNSF in 2017 and maintaining his sobriety for 30 years. Duane had many interests: crosswords, writing short stories, watching Jeopardy, fishing, bird hunting, gardening, playing cards, singing, making his famous pot roast and potato feasts, reading, championing political causes that impact seniors, listening to music and most of all, being a proud Grandpa. He leaves behind many people who will always love him for his tenacity (or stubbornness), quick wit and humor, mental agility, and kindness. Being a real, human, and candid person was central to his way of living. He saw himself as a flawed human being, but one committed to the work of becoming a better one. Jerome A. “Jerry” Lykken, age 73 of Milton, ND, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital of Cavalier. Jerry was born May 25, 1951 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Leo and Dorothy (Jonasson) Lykken. He grew up and attended school in Milton, graduating from Milton High School in 1969. He then attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton graduating in 1971 with a degree in Auto Mechanics. He was united in marriage to Lois Moen on June 26, 1971 at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Edmore, ND. The couple made their home in Grand Forks and Cavalier before moving to Milton in 1976. He was employed by John Deere, Arctic Cat, and Mayo Construction. In 1976 he started farming with his dad and brother, retiring in 2021. The couple also owned and operated The North Forty Bar in Milton from 1991-2010. He was a member of the Milton Lutheran Church, the Milton American Legion Post #179, the Mason Lodge #48, the 49ers, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He enjoyed golfing, racing, showing his cars in car shows, and driving his John Deere golf cart at their winter home in Arizona. Jerry is survived by his wife Lois, Milton, ND; children: Tammy (Mark) Close, Michelle (Jarrett) Moline and Jeff (Sara) Lykken, all of Langdon, ND; 9 grandchildren: Preston (Mackenzie Krueger) and Lexi Close, Kylee (Chase Rohde), Chandler, AKA “Macgyver” (Megan Hiller), and Keaton Moline, 3 special grandchildren: Conner (Jordyn), Corissa and Carter Tetrault, and Maddyn Lykken, always Maddie to Grandpa; great grandchild Avery; sisters: Susan (Joe) Gratton, Langdon, ND and Pam Lykken, Osnabrock, ND; sister-in-law Linda (Dave) Knutson, Cando, ND; as well as several nieces and nephews.
