​Lyla L. Gullickson, age 98 of Hoople, ND, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Park River Good Samaritan Center.
Lyla Knutson was born October 13, 1921 in Harwood, ND, the daughter of the late Christ and Hannah (Athadsott) Knutson. She grew up and attended school in Amenia, ND. She moved to Hoople, ND where she worked various jobs. She was united in marriage to Leonard Gullickson on December 6, 1942 in rural Hoople. In 1961 they purchased and ran Gullickson’s Café in Hoople. Leonard passed away in December of 1984 and she continued to run the Café until retiring in 1997. She lived in Hillsboro with her daughter from 2004 to 2010 when she moved to the Borg Home in Mountain and in 2014 moved to the Park River Good Samaritan Center.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Hoople. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching Minnesota Twins baseball. Lyla lived her life by example while providing her legendary pancakes, pies, potatoes and hamburgers. Her kindness, compassion, generosity and work ethic was a lesson to her family, employees and customers at the café where she spent so many years. No words needed – her smile said it all.
Lyla is survived by her children: Loren (Valery) Gullickson, Hoople, ND, Curtis (Terry) Gullickson, Hoople, ND and Jane (Les) Hurt, Hillsboro, ND, 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, sons: Harold, Dwight and Mark, as well as 14 brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be Friday, October 25, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church of Hoople. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Hoople City Cemetery.

​     Jeffry E. Restemayer, 65, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Monday, October 14, 2019, at his home in Cavalier. Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 21, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 20, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a 4:00 p.m. prayer service at the church. Interment will be held in the Zion Cemetery, Cavalier, ND.
    Jeffry Earl Restemayer was born August 7, 1954 to Earl and Helen (Haugstad) Restemayer. Jeff grew up on the family farm, and attended Cavalier School. He enjoyed playing the bass horn taking part in many state music contests and trips including the International Music Camp. He also enjoyed playing with the Pep Band for years.
     He was involved in 4-H for 10 years, earning many ribbons and trophies at the Pembina County Fair in Hamilton.
     Jeff always had a love of cooking and serving special food, which he learned from his Grandma Lydia Restemayer.
     He earned a degree from Wahpeton School of Science in Culinary Arts. He went on a trip to Europe with his chef class viewing different cooking sites. He worked at a supper club in Fargo. He took great pride in scouring recipe books and magazines for what to try for the next event. He always made sure there was plenty of food and a variety to choose from. He also didn’t mind washing dishes!
     On returning to Cavalier, he went into partnership with is Dad raising hogs, and helping with the Ralston Purina Feed Dealership. He also worked as a cook at the popular Chuckwagon Café for over ten years.
     He married Lynette Hance in 1981 at Deering, ND. In April of 1989, they welcomed their son John to the family.
     In 1987 Jeff started working at the Pembina County Sheriff’s Office as a 911 Dispatcher and Jailer. He retired on May 31, 2017 after 29.5 years. He worked mostly nights, and somehow it seemed to work out that he was “on shift” whenever something out of the ordinary happened. He was glad for doing his part in helping the work of the Sheriff and Police go well.
     He was a member of the Cavalier Jaycees and Trinity United Methodist Church in Cavalier, serving on many committees. Jeff enjoyed attending weekly Bible study and was currently serving as the Sunday School Superintendent. Jeff also continued his interest in 4-H. He was a leader of the Tongue River Braves, Green Clovers Club, and served on the County Leaders 4-H Council.
     Jeff loved the Pembina County Fair in Hamilton. He served on the fair board for over 25 years, spending most days of summer working at the fairgrounds, and thinking of ways to improve the fair for everyone. He was so proud to be on the fair board to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the fair. He took it in stride when the radio station would interview him each day of which food stand he tried.
     Jeff is survived by his wife, Lynette; son, John; mother, Helen; brothers: Steve (Sue) Restemayer and Doug (Connie) Restemayer; nephews: Bill, Alex, and Max Restemayer; niece, Anna Restemayer; uncle, Harold Haugstad; aunts: Alice Peterson and Linda Restemayer; brother-in-law, Jim (Linda) Hance; sisters-in-law, Bev Dougan and Judy (Steve) Doeden, and their families.
     He was preceded in death by his father, Earl; father-in-law, Lynn Hance; grandparents: Milton and Linda Restemayer and Harry and Caroline Haugstad; aunts: Mabel Kerlin, Muriel (Larry) Johnson, Corrine Haugstad; uncles: Russell Restemayer and Bob Peterson; sister-in-law, Colleen Hance; and brother-in-law, Danny Dougan.

     Dennis Allan Peterson, age 58, St. Cloud, MN, lost his battle with cancer on Friday, October 4, 2019, surrounded by his family, at his home in St. Cloud.
     A memorial gathering celebrating Dennis’s life will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home Chapel, St. Cloud, MN. A second service will be held Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 7:00 PM at Bethel Free Lutheran Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in Grafton Lutheran Cemetery, Grafton, ND.
     Dennis was born November 17, 1960 in Grafton, ND to Boyd and Betty (Brooks) Peterson. He enjoyed stock and sprint car races. An all-around sports fan, Dennis was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan.
     Survivors include his brothers, Kevin Peterson of Beaverton, OR and Wayne (Ginny) Peterson of Clear Lake, MN; niece, Angela (Erik Kuronen) Peterson of Big Lake, MN; and nephew Eric Peterson of Bogotá, Colombia.
     He was preceded in death by his parents.
     Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Larson, Jeff Madson, Jeff Burns, Larry Biri, Tracy Brooks and Travis Brooks.

Donnie “Tommy” Anderson, 57, of Plummer, MN, passed away Monday, October 7, 2019, in Fargo, ND.
Donnie “Tommy” Anderson was born September 6, 1962, in Langdon, ND, to Donald and Dorothy (Bitz) Anderson. He went to school in Walhalla, Langdon, and Milton. He worked for a tree removal service in Pueblo, CO, before returning to the area four years ago. He currently lived with his sister, Jody, in Plummer. Donnie enjoyed fishing and playing pool, dice, cards, and dominos.
Surviving Donnie are his siblings: Donna (Ron), JoAnn, Diane (Dan), Terry, Jody (Mark), Doug, David (Veronica) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister Kathy, nephew Sean Michael, niece Connie Mae, and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral service will be rescheduled  at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019, at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon, ND, with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m.

Laurel M. (Mondry) Kruse, age 75 of Jamestown, ND, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2019 in Bismarck, ND.
Laurel was born in Grafton, ND to Richard and Sylvia (Wysocki) Mondry on April 14, 1944.  She graduated from Minto High School and moved all over the United States to find warmer weather.  After the death of her husband of 24 years, she returned to North Dakota to take her residence in Jamestown.  She had a number of different careers including: Accounts Payable, Production Manager and Certified Nurse’s Assistant.  She finally retired at age 73.  Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren.  She loved to cook and took pride in the meals she prepared.  Laurel was famous for her Secret Recipe Hot-dish, Burritos, Banana Bread and all things Thanksgiving.  She was an accomplished Spinner and would take wool from its raw form and spin beautiful yarns.  Other interests included: Weaving, Horses, Antique shopping, Scuba and Skydiving.  She loved to travel but hated to drive, a fearless person who never shied from a new experience.
Laurel is survived by her fiancé, John Riski; Son, Shawn (Kristina) Norton; daughter, Shelly Bourquin; sisters:  Laverne (Jim Costello) Mahar, Lorraine (Conrad) Dvorak and Dianna Bass; brothers:  Harold (Joan) Mondry and Richard (Darlene) Mondry; Granddaughter, Alex Brusko; Grandsons:  Connor (Carly) Norton and Gabe Brusko; Great-grandson, Xavier Gonzalez.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim and Granddaughter, Krystal.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Minto, ND.  Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:00 – 10:30 A.M at the church.  Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Minto, ND.

​Shirley R. Kemp, 95, of Cavalier, ND passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cavalier Evangelical Free Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation at the church for one hour before the time of services on Saturday. There will also be a visitation at the church on Friday, October 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 7;00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.  Burial will be held in the Hamilton Cemetery. 
     She is survived by her sons: David (Martha) Kemp, Don (Becky) Kemp, Greg (Gracie) Kemp, Bill (Beth) Kemp, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren with two on the way, and one sister.

Veronica Pitcher, age 88 of Park River, ND went home to be with her Lord on Monday, September 30, 2019.
She was born on June 18, 1931 in Olga, ND to Henry and Veronica Denault. She worked outside the home during harvest with her husband and was employed at the Developmental Center from 1984 to 2005 retiring at the age of 74.
She married Stanley Pitcher on July 15, 1946 in Cavalier, ND. They were married for 63 years and raised eight children together.
Her greatest joy was time spent with her family, she looked forward to those times when all her children came home to be together. She would spend many hours in the kitchen preparing the favorites of each of her children and grandchildren. Her labor of love was working with her hands doing the most beautiful embroidery and crochet and blessed her children with quilts, pillowcases and towels.
Veronica is survived by her children: Eileen (Dick) Halvorson, Eldon Pitcher, David Pitcher, Donald Pitcher, Lori (Hunter) Russell, daughters-in-law Kathy Pitcher and Diane Pitcher; sister Gloria Zueger; fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her husband Stanley, her sons Marvin Pitcher and Duayne Pitcher and daughter Vivian Herzog, parents and seven brothers and one sister.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 4, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Park River.
