Delores “Dickie” Larson Huffman, age 91, of Walhalla ND went to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at the Pembilier Nursing Center in Walhalla. Dickie was born on March 14, 1931, in Park River, ND to Henry and Agnes (Smazik) Larson. At five years of age, she moved to Walhalla with her parents, being raised in a pastor's home. She attended grade school and high school in Walhalla, graduating in 1949. During high school, she worked as a telephone operator. After graduation, she attended Mayville State College and taught at the Ormerly School District and was a bus driver for Walhalla Public School District for many years. On September 19, 1951, she married Jack Huffman at the Walhalla Assembly of God Church. They farmed in the Crown Center area north of Walhalla. Jack passed away on August 18, 1991. Survivors include her daughter, Sherri Lee (Jerry) Johnson of Grand Forks, and two sons, Sheyne (Cindy) Huffman of Walhalla and John (Michelle) Huffman of Benson MN; four grandsons, Faron (Shea) Johnson of Jackson MO; Shawn (Sarah) Johnson of Cape Girardeau MO; Steve (Denise) Huffman of Plymouth MN; and Colton (Hannah) Huffman of Grand Forks; four granddaughters, Chelsae (Ron) Carlson of West Fargo; Krista (Chad) Newman of Otsego MN; Trisha (Mason) Ascheman of Montevideo MN; Shanice (Josh) Bailey of Cavalier ND, as well as twelve great-grandchildren: Owen and Ethan Johnson, Macie and Dylan Johnson, Reilly Carlson, Logan and Claire Huffman, Morgan and Harper Ascheman, Caleb, Brooklyn, and Carter Bailey and Galilee Newman and sister, Marian Glover of WA state, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dickie was a member of the Walhalla Assembly of God Church, the Gideon Auxillary, the Pembilier Nursing Home Auxillary and the local senior citizen's group. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, volunteering at the nursing home, playing the piano, organ, and vibraharp, decorating, and working with flowers. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Jack, a brother Ronald, and two nephews. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Walhalla Assembly of God Church in Walhalla, ND. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Walhalla, ND.

Kenneth W. Hoffmann, age 74 of Grafton, ND passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks surrounded by his family. Ken was born March 15, 1948 in Jamestown, ND, the son of the late Bertha (Hoffmann) Reidburn. He spent his childhood being raised in Medina and Jamestown, graduating from high school in Jamestown in 1966. Ken attended college in Wahpeton and finished at Valley City State College where he met Barbara Thoe. Ken and Barbara were married on July 11, 1971 in Fordville, ND, the start of their 51 years together. Ken began working for White Drug, which took their family to Jamestown, Fargo, Le Sueur, MN, and Devils Lake. Ken also worked for Ben Franklin and Pamida, which brought them to Rugby and finally Grafton where they settled. He finished his career in telecommunications, retiring from AT&T in 2013. He was a past President of Heritage Village in Grafton, a longtime member of the Jaycees in Jamestown, and a member of the Valley Cruisers Car Club of North Dakota. He was an avid collector of anything nostalgic that caught his eye, loved fishing on Lake Sakakawea, and photography. Most of all, Ken loved cruising in his ’57 Chevy. Ken is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons: Neil (Sheri) Hoffmann, McCanna, ND, Chris Hoffmann (Cari Johnson), Grand Forks, ND, and Sean (Krysta) Hoffmann, Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: Justin, Eric, Gillian, and Casper; aunt Mildred Hoffmann, Spiritwood Lake, ND; mother-in-law, Dorothy Thoe and brother-in-law, Randy Thoe both of Fordville, ND; many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, James Reidburn. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Federated Church of Grafton. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Federated Church of Grafton. Michael C Peterson was born February 2, 1974 at Cavalier, ND to Clifford and Debra (Mostad) Peterson. He grew up in Walhalla and graduated from Walhalla High School in 1993. Mike worked as a welder at ADM in Walhalla for John Anderson and also at Border Town Wire Production in Neche, ND. Mike loved motorcycling, riding his ATV and anything off road. He was handy at making random projects, fixing, and tinkering. He is survived by his children: Devon Peterson, Walhalla, ND, Savanna Peterson, Grand Forks, ND, his parents, Clifford and Debbie Peterson, Walhalla, ND, and his beloved dogs, Porsche and Lambo. Preceding him in death were his grandparents and uncle. Richard A. Gerszewski, age 83 of Minto, ND passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at his home near Minto. Richard A. Gerszewski was born April 3, 1939 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of the late Richard Gerszewski and Elizabeth (Ebertowski) Kosmatka. He grew up in Warsaw and attended school in Warsaw and the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. He returned to Warsaw and started farming and working for American Crystal. Richard was united in marriage to Carol Schneider on September 11, 1962. The couple made their home in the Warsaw area where they raised their family. He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Warsaw, ND, a member of the P.N.A, served on the Pulaski Township board and served on the Warsaw Hall board. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and hunting. Richard is survived by his wife, Carol Gerszewski, Minto, ND; children: Roberta Narlock, Grand Forks, ND; Glenn (Shari) Gerszewski, Kulm, ND; David Gerszewski, Minto, ND; John (Jackie) Gerszewski, Frazee, MN; Dale (Anne) Gerszewski, Warsaw, ND; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; brothers: Lawrence (Elaine) Gerszewski, Grand Forks, ND; Marvin Kosmatka, Warsaw, ND; and his faithful companion, Otis. Shirley Ann Amundson, age 85, of Larimore and formerly Inkster, ND, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 in Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Shirley was born February 13, 1937 at Crystal, ND, the daughter of Mervin and Mildred (Johnson) Becker. She was raised in Crystal until moving with her family to Inkster in 1953. She graduated from Inkster High School and then attended Aakers Business College. Shirley married George Amundson on December 9, 1956 at Inkster. After their marriage they lived and farmed near Inkster. She worked for a few years at Valley Bank in Gilby. The couple moved into Grand Forks in 1992. Mr. Amundson preceded her in death December 8, 1992. Surviving members of her family include her sons: Jay (Heather), Larimore, Tracy (April), Hatton, and Lee, Bismarck; one grandson Joshua; brothers: Clark (Melva) Becker, Inkster; Gary (Patty) Becker, Crystal; sister: Myrna Flowers, Phoenix, AZ; sisters-in-law: Mary Whaley, Fordville and Dorothy Amundson, Grand Forks; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Glen, brother-in-law Thomas Amundson and sister-in-law Margaret Woods. Woods, age 82 of Forest River, ND passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND. Margaret M. Woods was born August 7, 1939 at her parents farm near Inkster, ND. Margaret was born the daughter of Henry and Sara (Bannerman) Amundson. Margaret graduated from Inkster High School in 1957. She then went on to NDSU at Fargo and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. In March 1961, she was employed at the Red River National Bank in Grand Forks for three years. Margaret married Robert G. (Bob) Woods, the son of Walter and Myra Woods on September 8, 1962 in Inkster, ND. The couple lived on a farm near Forest River. Margaret and Bob had 2 children, Amy Woods Carroll and Chad (Freddie) Woods. Margaret was a very active member in her community. She was assistant 4-H Leader of the Johnstown Jills 4-H club for years and was a member of the Forest River Community Church and past treasurer of the Church Women’s Association. Margaret was a member of the Johnstown-Forest River Homemakers Club and recently retired after 46 years as clerk of the Forest River Township. Margaret was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a part-time employee of Bremer Bank for 30 years, the primary location being in Forest River. Margaret was most known for her zest for life and having fun with her family and friends. She was also known for her cake baking and decorating skills. She made many birthday, wedding, anniversary, and graduation cakes for friends and family. What Margaret treasured most was her 3 grandsons and her great-granddaughter. She attended many soccer, hockey and track events and was always up for a road trip to see her grandsons compete. Margaret adored her great-granddaughter Adelyn—her face lit up whenever Adelyn was around. Margaret is survived by her daughter Amy Woods Carroll, Grand Forks, ND; son Chad (Freddie) of Forest River, ND; grandchildren Samuel Carroll (Brittany Cain); Parker Carroll; Tanner Carroll and great-granddaughter Adelyn; sister Mary Whaley of Fordville, ND; sister-in-law, Dorothy Amundson, Grand Forks, ND and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband Bob, her parents Henry & Sara and brothers George (Shirley) Amundson and Thomas Amundson. Interment will be at the Forest River Cemetery, Forest River, ND. Cledith Arlan Carlson, age 76 of Park River, ND passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at his home in Park River. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 10:30 AM at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites will be provided by the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard and the Lankin American Legion Post #157. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery of Park River. Charles A. Thacker was born to Albert E Thacker and Kathleen E Lownds on March 25, 1930, in Hamilton, North Dakota. Albert died when Charles was six years old. He attended school in Hamilton to the third grade until his mother remarried John Carkner and he then attended the Bruce Community School rural Pembina County. He entered the army in 1946 and was stationed at Camp McCoy, he was discharged in 1948 as a med tec. On September 28, 1949, he married Joan Gerszewski in Grafton, North Dakota. To this union three children were born, Kathy, Charles Jr and Todd. On March 19, 2015, Joan his wife passed away. Charles ran Chucks Body Shop and Auto Repair until 1988 when he retired. He was a member of Gainer-McAndrews Post 242 in Neche. Charles was past presidents of: Neche Legion post, Pembina County Fair, Job Development, St. Joseph’s Preservation Society,and Township Association. Charles is survived by his children Kathy Bjornstad of Walhalla, Charles (Linda)Thacker of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Todd (Joanne) Thacker of Neche. Grandchildren Kayla (Billy) Bjornstad of Hillsboro, Dustin Bjornstad of Walhalla, Daniel (Jennifer)Thacker of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nicholas (Crystal) Thacker of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Stacey Thacker of Santan Valley, Arizona, Travis (Kellee) Thacker and Adam Thacker both of Neche. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held for one hour before the time of services. Betty Ann Bestland was born August 21, 1928 at Crystal, ND to Martin and Myrtle (Hunter) Bestland. She grew up at Crystal and graduated from Crystal High School. Betty attended Jamestown College, then returned to Grafton, ND where she worked at the Register of Deeds Office in the Walsh County Court House. On November 6, 1949, she married Robert N. Rinde at the Federated Church in Grafton. They lived and farmed in the St. Thomas area for 60 years. In 2010, they moved to Parkwood Place in Grand Forks, ND. Bob and Betty wintered in Coronado, CA and Fountain Hills, AZ. Betty moved to her apartment in Leisure Estates in Grafton, ND in April of 2022. Betty was an avid reader and also enjoyed embroidery, cross word puzzles and puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling with trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and Norway, visiting her sisters in Colorado and Texas, and attending Bob’s Navy reunions. She served as State President of the Republican Women and was also a member of the North Dakota State Library Board, United Methodist Women in St. Thomas, St. Thomas Lyceum Club, St. Thomas Legion Auxiliary, and local Red Hats. Betty and Bob enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and she was also a volunteer at the Parkwood Place Library. Betty is survived by four daughters: Ruth Lawrence, Eagan, MN, Susan Rinde, Overland Park, KS, Elizabeth (Roger) Thompson, St. Thomas, ND, and Patricia Rinde, Jamestown, ND; grandchildren: Emily Lawrence (Scott Carlson), Anne Lawrence (Ryan O’Rourke), Nicholas Delorme (Kirstin), Elizabeth Delorme (Jon Hetts), Andrew Thompson (Jennifer), and James Thompson (Mary Beth); great-grandchildren: Charlotte Carlson, Colin Carlson, Liam Delorme, Noella Delorme, Huey Hetts, Molly Thompson, Violet Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Mason Thompson, and Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Thompson. Also surviving are her siblings: Kay Walstad, Molly (Myron) Kemnitz, Ruth (Bill) Brown, Sandy (Garvin) Stevens; sisters-in-law: Shirley Rinde and Marjorie Haggart; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
