Douglas S. Kemp, age 79, of Cavalier, ND, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 16, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Cavalier. A visitation was held Thursday, July 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND. Douglas Stanley Kemp was born February 15, 1942 in Drayton, ND to Willis and Myrtle (Smillie) Kemp. He attended the Prattford Country School No. 98 through the eighth grade and then attended Cavalier High School where he graduated in 1960. He then attended and graduated from NDSSS, in Wahpeton. Doug returned to Pembina County and worked as a mechanic and for a farmer before retiring. Doug also owned and operated a snow blowing business for several years. He entered the North Dakota National Guard in 1964. and was discharged in 1994. During his years in the service, he was deployed during Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991 He was a member of the Laverne J. Thompson Post #11 American Legion, Cavalier and was a director on the Pembina County Historical Society. He also served on the Cavalier Fire Department. At home, he enjoyed working in his shop, and would always have a project for himself or for a member of the community. On May 29, 1966, Douglas was married to Delores Kemnitz at Our Savior Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Delores; children: Susann Kemp-Ault and Stacey (Katie) Kemp, all of Grand Forks; granddaughter, Megan Ault, Vermillion, SD; siblings: Dennis (Judy) Kemp, Park River, Gayle (Don) Geiger, Bonita Springs, FL, Paul Kemp, Grand Forks, Jeff (JoEllen) Kemp, El Paso, TX, and Steve Kemp, in Indiana; aunt Carol Sparrow, Mayville; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents.

Cooper D. Satterlund, age 15 of Pisek, ND passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021. Cooper Satterlund was born February 22, 2006 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Chad Satterlund and the late Laura (Satterlund) Zelewski. He grew up in Grafton and had just finished his 9th grade year. He was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church. While in school, Cooper was an honor student as well as being active on the basketball, baseball and football teams. Whenever Cooper smiled his whole face would light up, he also had a hug that made you feel like never letting go. He was a goofball at times with his infectious giggles and that mischievous grin that kept you on your feet. Making you wonder if he was up to no good or wanted to show you a more serious side with his heart of gold he had. His family, friends, teammates and fans were the most important things to him as he would drop everything just to have a one-on-one intimate conversation with you to show you, he cared. He was able to stay humble through all of his achievements and success on the court and field as that was his true passion. Cooper was serious about his new found curly golden locks and everyone fell in love with it too. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time at both grandpa’s and grandma’s lake places as he would get every chance he had to drive and explore the lake with the jet ski when Tucker wasn’t hogging it. Fishing, tubing, playing board/card games, twisting and turning hilly game of croquet were just a few things he loved to do surrounded by his loved ones. He touched so many throughout the years and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him for many years to come. Cooper is survived by his father Chad (Carrie Stokaluk) Satterlund, brother Tucker Satterlund, Libby and Wyatt Stokaluk, all of Pisek, ND; grandparents: Kim (Jerry) Stormo, Cass Lake, MN and Chuck (Dina) Satterlund, Drayton, ND as well as the following aunts and uncles: Nathan (Jaci) Satterlund of East Grand Forks, MN, Jordan (Kari Brady) Stormo of Fisher, MN, Amber Stormo of Maynard, MN, Chad Barta of Minto, ND, Pat (Jade) Barta of Grand Forks, ND, Tami Thompson of Fargo, ND and Kristin Meschke of Shakopee, MN. He had many cousins and extended family as well. He was preceded in death by his mother Laura Zelewski, and grandparents Carol and Dennis Zelewski. A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 12:00-2:00 PM at the Grafton Lutheran Church of Grafton. A private family service will be at 2:00 PM. The service will be live streamed on the Grafton Lutheran Church facebook page and a recording of the service will be available on the Tollefson Funeral Home website following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Park River Ambulance, the Walsh County Sherriff’s Department or the Grafton High School Athletic Department. Jeffrey A. Lafferty, 50, of Walhalla, ND passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. A prayer service will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND. Visitation for one hour before the time of services at the church. Jeffrey Alan Lafferty was born May 25, 1971 at Cavalier, ND to Donald Dean Lafferty and Elizabeth “Betty” Lajimodiere. He grew up and attended school at Walhalla, ND. Jeff then worked at Ecusta and at Johnson Farms from 1992 to 2017. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time by the fire visiting, riding in the hills, and family get togethers. Jeff had an ability and enjoyed making people laugh. He was always willing to help others in any way he could. On June 18, 2003, he married Stephanie LaPorte at Cavalier, ND, she survives him as do his children: Trey (Dayna) Lafferty and Michael Lafferty, all of Cavalier, ND, Dalton Meader, Grafton, ND, and Mercedez Lafferty, Walhalla, ND, granddaughters: LaShay and Ayanna and grandson, Weston. Also surviving are his parents: Donald (Jane) Lafferty and Betty Lajimodiere; siblings: Mitch Lajimodiere, D.J. Lafferty, Ryan (Alicia) Veer, Tito (Nicole) Romero, Trevor Lafferty, Josh Lafferty, and Wendel Lafferty. Preceding him in death were his grandparents and uncles and aunts. Joan E. "Joanie" Anderson, age 70 of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Grafton, ND passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at the Altru Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Larry Weiner, 78, of Neche, ND, passed away July 4, 2021, at his home. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 7, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Askew Funeral Home in Cavalier, ND. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at Vang Cemetery near Vang, ND. Larry was born December 3, 1943 at Langdon, ND to John and Alice (Olson) Wiener. He grew up at Vang, where he attended country school. He worked construction his entire life and worked for Bill Henschel until the time of his illness. Larry enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed being outside and working at his job. In his younger days, Larry enjoyed playing his guitar. He was married to Beatrice Tamke and later to Pat Harildstad. He is survived by his daughter, LaDonna Mortenson, Gilby, ND, stepson, Don (Kim) Tamke, Anchorage, AK, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Gaylord (Lorraine) Weiner, Osnabrock, ND, Erma (Eugene) Uecker, Walhalla, ND, Roger Weiner, Dickinson, ND, Orlin (Delores) Wiener, Langdon, ND, and Richard Weiner, Inkster, ND, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Beatrice, grandson, Tray S. Hertenstein, siblings, Ronald Weiner and Beulah Clifford, grandparents, Hans and Hilda Olson and John and Katherine Weiner. Marilyn F. Lauer, age 84 of Grafton, North Dakota passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 at her home in Grafton. Marilyn Frances Lauer was born September 14, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of the late Wilfred Lauer and Mary (Druar) Lauer. She attended school at St. Thomas High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After her separation from the Air Force she returned to St. Thomas. Marilyn worked for Borden’s Grafton until they closed and then began working for American Crystal until her retirement in 2003. She moved to Grafton where she continued to make her home until the time of her death. She was a member of the former St. Thomas Catholic Church, St. Thomas, ND and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, ND. She loved to crochet and bake. Marilyn was the favorite aunt and grandma figure to all of her nieces and nephews. Marilyn is survived by her bothers: Arnold (Rose) Lauer, Seattle, WA; Pat (Rita) Lauer, Bottineau, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Wilfred (Judy) Lauer. Memorial services will be held Monday, July 12, 2021 11:00 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may call at the church on Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Sondeland, age 92 of Hensel, North Dakota passed away Friday, July 2, 2021 at the Wedgewood Manor of Cavalier, North Dakota. Gordon was born May 24, 1929 in Auburn, North Dakota, the son of the late John and Birdine “Birdie” (Swanson) Sondeland. He attended and graduated from Mountain High School. He was a mechanic and started farming in the early 1950’s. Gordon was united in marriage to Eunice (Elton) Sondeland on April 28, 1948 in Crookston, Minnesota. The couple made their home near Hensel, North Dakota, where Gordon continued to make his home until the time of his death. He was a member of Vikur Lutheran Church, Mountain, North Dakota. Gordon loved his family; he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed tinkering and loved to farm. Gordon is survived by his children: Gordon D. (Sharon) Sondeland, Langdon, ND; Linda (Russ) Ramsey, West Fargo, ND; Gregg (Sharon) Sondeland, Edinburg, ND; Vicki (Jim) Corneillie, Fargo, ND; son-in-law, Ken Omlie, Lankin, ND; 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eunice, daughter Deborah Omlie, three infant daughters, two infant sons and siblings: Lawrence, Evelyn and John. Graveside services will be Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at the Hoff Lutheran Cemetery, rural Adams, ND. Merle E. Henke, 81 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck ND. Funeral Services for Merle will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Devils Lake. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, July 9th at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Merle will be laid to rest in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan ND at a later date. |
