 Marilynn Gierszewski, age 68, passed away April 10, 2020 at Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.
She was born to Arlin Moen and Viola Moen (St. Vincent), in Grafton, ND on February 9, 1952. She completed school in Langdon, ND. After high school, Marilynn worked as a caregiver and as a waitress. She loved playing league softball as a pitcher after she finished school. Marilynn was the beloved wife and soul mate of Charles “Chuck” Gierszewski for the last 22 years. She will be remembered for her generous heart and willingness to help and give shelter to those in need, especially family and friends. Marilynn loved to watch Sioux hockey with Chuck. She also enjoyed watching ice skating and gymnastics. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee, crocheting, Bingo, coloring and collecting pens. She especially enjoyed going to the casinos with her best friend, Lila Haugland. Marilynn will be greatly missed by her loving husband, her children, grandchildren, siblings and all other family and friends who treasured her. All will miss her feisty spirit and quirky ways. She is survived by her husband, Charles; daughters, Lacy LeBlanc (Racheal) and Kourtney Littlewind; son, Kurtis LeBlanc, Shane and Jason Peterson, all of Grand Forks, ND; brothers, Marlin (Shelly) , Green River, WY, Charlie (Holly), Hoople, ND; grandchildren, Jursey, Braydon, Allen., Shelby, Kieran, Joseph. Bethany, Miley, Carlos, Linda, Sarah, Andrew, Ryan, Tyler, Garrett, Nathan and Mathew; and her faithful canine and friend, Bizzy. Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vernette Moen; Paternal grandparents; beloved son Darrin Sangrait and beloved daughter, Mandy LeBlanc A memorial service will take place 10:30 AM Friday, July 17, 2020 at Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour before the service at the funeral home.

 Delores Elaine “Dede” Longtin, 86, of Walhalla, ND passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020, at the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla, ND. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla, ND on Tuesday, July 14, 2020. The service will be available to view at askewfuneralhome.com on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. Memorials are preferred to the Pembilier Nursing Center, Park River Bible Camp, or the Walhalla Ambulance Service.
Dede Walstad was born June 25, 1934 at Park River, ND to Gustav and Christina Louise (Larson) Walstad. She grew up and attended school in Park River, graduating from the Walsh County Agricultural School. Dede then attended nursing school in St. Paul, MN, and then worked as an L.P.N. at the hospital in Park River. On May 1, 1954, she married Gary Longtin at Leroy, ND. After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Leroy area. Dede’s love for the Christmas season brought so much joy to her family. Her favorite hobby was quilting and many of her quilts were given to various charitable causes. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening, traveling and casino excursions. She was a 4-H leader and active in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Leroy and the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Walhalla. Rest in peace our dear mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her children: Phil (Corliss) Longtin, Walhalla, ND, Cindy Freschette, Fargo, ND, Jody (Steve) Berg, East Grand Forks, MN, Rod (Nicole) Longtin, Walhalla, ND, Terry (Jane) Longtin, Grand Forks, ND, Marie (Joe) Talley, Oxbow, ND; grandchildren: Darrin, Andrea, and Jeramy; Aaron, Brigitte, and Carla; Carmen, Carrie, and Jon; LuAnn and Luke; Cody, Samantha, and Jess; Megan and David; and 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Wayne (Kay) Walstad. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Gary; and siblings: Clayton, Adeline, Lila, Hazel, Percy, Glenna, and Jane.  Lorretta E. Gjesdal, 81, of Langdon, ND, fell asleep in Christ surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at her home.
Lorretta Sanderson was born April 6, 1939, in Edmore, ND, to Ernest and Gunda (Hellekson) Sanderson. She grew up in Edmore where she attended school. Lorretta married Irvin Melland. They lived in the Edmore area and had four children: LuDelle, Rhonda, Kenneth, and Melanie. Later, she married Orris Gjesdal, the love of her life. They lived in Denver, CO, for 28 years before moving to Langdon in 2012. She was a wonderful step-mother to Tammy, Kerna, Stacey, Sherri, and Lance. Lorretta enjoyed going to garage sales, traveling, spending time with family & friends, and being in charge. Surviving Lorretta are her husband, Orris; children: LuDelle (Allen) Balek of Gillette, WY, Rhonda (JD) Day of San Antonio, TX, and Melanie (Bill) Hoover of Vallejo, CA; step-children: Tammy Gjesdal (Shawn O’Brien) of Winston-Salem, NC, Kerna Gjesdal (Brian Wirth) of Munich, ND, Stacey (Dave) Roy of Langdon, and Sherri (Mark) Romfo of Langdon; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and siblings: John (Rita) Sanderson of Grand Forks, ND, Ron (Gail) Sanderson of Harstine Island, WA, Jane (Lynn) Melland of Elk River, MN, and Lloyd (Patty) Sanderson of Edmore, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Irvin, son Kenneth, step-son Lance, and two granddaughters Breah Roy and Brooke Borho. A memorial service for Lorretta will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 10, 2020, in Nekoma.  Anna M. Welsh, age 86 of Grafton, ND, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton, surrounded by family under hospice care.
Anna Marie LeBlanc was born May 14, 1933 in Cashel, ND the daughter of the late Alphonse and Aurore (Gregorie) LeBlanc. She attended school at the Aloysius Academy inOakwood, ND. Following her education she married Robert Welsh on August 4, 1951in Ozark, Alabama while Robert was stationed at Fort Rucker. The couple made their home in Walhalla, ND until 1955, when they moved to Grafton. Anna was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. She worked for many years at Borden’s in Grafton before moving over to the Life Skills and Transition Center. Anna loved to sew and she was known for her incredible seamstress skills. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and loved spending time with her children and their families. Anna is survived by her children: Sheila Hrabik, Grand Forks, ND; Warren (Dr. Cynthia) Welsh, Charleston, SC; Debbie (Bob) Livingood, Grafton, ND; Sandra (Greg) Rose, Grafton, ND; Becky (Vern) Schnellbach, Grafton, ND; Tammy (Keith) Fletus, Nisswa, MN: Wayne Welsh, Grafton, ND; Connie (Stefan) Linstad, Park River, ND; Stacy (Roben)Trosen, Cavalier, ND; 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Anna was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jack, son-in-law Wayne Hrabik, grandson Christopher Welsh, great grandson Angel Herrera, great granddaughter Peyton Lillico, and her siblings. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Grafton, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Grafton, ND.  Rossford O. Johnson, age 87 of Park River, ND, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Aneta Parkview Health Center of Aneta, ND.
Rossford Johnson was born May 8, 1933 in Park River, ND, the son of the late Melvin “M.O.” and Florence (Gates) Johnson. He grew up in Park River and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Johnson in December of 1950, and later attended college in Fargo. Following his graduation, he returned to Park River to farm with his father and established Potato Sales, Inc. During his career, Rossford also developed the first 12-row potato planter. Rossford earned his pilots license and enjoyed checking crops and flying to Fargo to watch NDSU football. He enjoyed Bison athletics, traveling, brass band music, and a good meal. He retired from farming in 2003 but could often be seen driving a red Suburban co-piloted by a black lab named Bison. He moved into the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore in 2016, and later the Aneta Parkview Health Center in 2017. He attended Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. He is survived by his children: Dorothy (William) Farrell, Larimore, ND, Jeanette (William) Larson, Park River, ND, Russell (Barbara) Johnson, Park River, ND, and Linnae (Jonathan) Norberg, Clear Lake, MN; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, and grandson Don Greff. A private family service will be held at a later date with inurnment at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River.  Jean Haave, age 92 of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Park River and Grafton, ND passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at the Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND.
Jean Hankey was born October 29, 1927 near Park River, ND the daughter of the late Carl and Edith (McAulay) Hankey. She graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River and attended the Interstate Business College. Following her education she worked at the State Seed Department in Grafton, ND. On August 9, 1950 she married Howard Haave at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Park River, ND. They lived in St. Thomas, ND, Red Lake Falls, MN and East Grand Forks, MN. After his untimely death on May 25, 1966, Jean moved to Grafton, ND where she worked as a secretary for several businesses, including Walsh County Social Services. Jean retired in 2005 and moved to Park River, ND. In 2014 she moved to Parkwood Senior Living in Grand Forks. She had just recently moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton. Jean was very involved with her church and was an Oblate of St. Benedict’s Monastery in Crookston, MN. She loved to play any kind of cards and was an avid reader. Jean is survived by her children: Karen Iverson, Grafton, ND and Carl (Kathryn) Haave, St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren, one great grandchild and brother, John (Anna Mae) Hankey, Park River, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Thomas, daughter Barbara, brother Carl and sisters: Catherine and Mary Helen. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, funeral services will be held at a later date. Jean will be interred at St. Dorothy’s Cemetery, Dorothy, MN. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Mount Saint Benedict, 620 Summit Avenue North, Crookston, MN 56716. |
